When your feathers are soaked and your eyes are too bloody to see,
And you pulled every punch that you had but there's one that you need,
Then you've waited too long,
There's a hole in your heart,
And all you've become is emotionally overrun

[Chorus]
Wishing wells were made to echo a dime,
The consequences are you keep on relying,
You've become a run and hide refugee,
Baby I'm a cop, stop, put up your hands and surrender to me

You're gonna get hooked if there's anything left I can do,
You've already disarmed it's your lasting alarm I pursue,
You can loosen those fists,
C'mon blow me a kiss,
You've been roughed up enough to deserve some relief from your troubles,
So I'm coming in

[Chorus]

Otherwise, I would never tell you what to do despite,
Any indecision though I know I'm right,
Arguing was always my forte,
And one thing I can say is I won't tell you lies,
Or treat you like a rental car like other guys,
And if you think I'm crazy find an alibi,
Cause you will need some evidence to show

[Chorus]

Baby I'm a cop, stop, put up your hands and surrender to me

This song is about a girl who has been through many bad relationships yet there is a boy right under her nose who is basically telling her that he willl take care of her and will always be there for her. He is saying stop the hurting and stop and come to me. How sweet is that?!

This song is definitely one of my favorite Gavin songs, I think every girl can relate to the girl in this song. I totally agree with Jess on the meaning of it .. and who wouldn't want a guy to say those things to her??

i recently saw gavin in concert and he said that the main line of the song was inspired by a cop role playing game he used to play with an old girlfriend... kinda funny... he even had furry handcuffs with him onstage... amazing in concert. ive seen him twice and its not enough.

you're right, gavin is so amazing in concert. what i like most about this song is that he says that wishing wells weren't really made for wishes, and that her wishes wont get her anywhere and she needs to stop relying on that. he is right there in front of her. and those are the guys that are hardest to see.

Anyone know of plans to studio record this?

I just heard it live last night and absolutely loved it. He's such a great performer. Can't wait to see what he puts on the next album.

i just saw gavin in concert in london last night & it was amazing! he said this song was about how he had a crush on a girl which got out of hand and he was kind of "stalking her", he tried to persuade himself that he wasn't being selfish but he was "doing it for her", and she didn't want his help. so that he wasn't actually "stalking" her, he pretended to be a cop, so she would have to stop and surrender to him! he was so funny when he was telling the story!

This isn't on any CD. He just performs it live (very often). Try downloading it. I love it! I'm sure he will put it on the new album... whenever the hell it comes out, its been 4 years since the first one.

But this is so much fun to sing along to. Its so catchy and cute. He really wants this girl :)

    Great song.

In the first verse, he describes this poor, jaded girl. She has made mistakes and he is ready to fix them. My interpretation for the chorus is that this girl makes wishes, and relies on luck to get anywhere in life, meanwhile Gavin is explaining to her that you have to work for something like love, you can't just hope it comes to you. He assures her that she will like him with the more time she spends with him. She's already "disarmed" which means they have reached a point of security and comfort that she rarely lets happen, but he wants more.

In the bridge, he let's her know that the choice is still hers to make, and he is not forcing her into anything, but still has that confidence that he is right for her. He makes sure she knows that he is a better choice than other guys.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
