Darla, they've brought your eggs into my kitchen
I know you're wishin' your bones weren't so soft
But your cage is just too small to move in,
We're fucking groovin' in the city
It's a pity that you can't be groovin' too, boo.

And I know that you weren't born for a pot pie,
That you weren't born for the cage in life
And I know that your ovulation's private
And you're ready to be fertilized.

Darla, you never said you were unhappy
Or you feel crappy
Never said anything at all
But I know you know you're not living the good life
If I could I'd pick lock you free,
You'd live with jeff and me on fairmount st.
That'd be neat.

And I know that you weren't born for a pot pie,
That you were born for the cage in life
And I know that your ovulation's private
And you're ready to be fertilized.

actually Why? made this song about a chicken stuck in a chicken coop her whole life just making babies for our consumption... he made it to see what other people would intreprete it as, but it is simply about a female chicken and her depressing existence, he is saying its not right for her whole life to be laying eggs for us in a coop... its actually a brilliant experiment and you are the rat...

I kind of thought it was a metaphor for an older women who got stuck with a shitty husband who wanted it to be just the two of them, but now it's too getting too late for that, and so she feels totally trapped, is all, maybe.

Yoni said that it's literally about hens raised for eggs. He said that one night he was on the internet, looking at a website about why you should be vegan, and they were talking about how horrible the chickens are treated, and the next morning while he was taking a shower, he heard his sister and his mother making eggs in the kitchen, and he just started singing the song to himself. And two years later, it was recorded. =]

I guess that shows you that not every song has to be a metaphor.

Hehe, love it. Rooster solo FTW!

I don't really know what it's about, but I hope it describes the pain of a chicken. Would be interesting.

Yeah I think it's an ode to a chicken who's about to die simple as that...no need to read too much into it and make it some strange sexual metaphor. He's sad for Darla the chicken and is just letting her know that.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
