Do do do do do do do doo, ba da ba babaa
It doesn't matter now, what the song's about
Do do do do do doo, ba da ba ba ba baaa
It doesn't matter now, what the song's about

I really don't want to write another I'm a dick song again
It doesn't matter now, what the song's about
My mouth is my own bear trap I keep setting and stepping in
It doesn't matter now, what the song's about

no matter what I did, no matter what I said
It doesn't matter now, we've got it figured out
We could continue on, with such nonsense to fill the days
..and we won't speak, of ugly things
But when these lyrics come out you'll come scream at me
One foots in your mouth the other foots in your grave
So sing your heart out loud (x3)

do do do do do do do doo, ba da ba da da daaaa
Sing your heart out loud

I'm a dick, there, I said it, sing your heart out loud

this song sounds like its about how he gets fed up of writing about the same things over and over again but its just what comes out when he writes. "my mouth is my own bear trap I keep setting and stepping in" it could also be sang to his lady friend saying how in their relationship he could act liek he has no problems or anything and that everything is fine, but when she hears his latest songs they will be about whats wrong, i got this from the lines "we could continue on, with such nonsense to fill the days ..and we wont speak, of ugly things but when these lyrics come out you'll come scream at me" orrrr it could be about playing the fans what they want to hear, he doesnt really want to keep writing the same songs over and over "i really don't want to write another I'm a dick song again" but the crowd love it "but when these lyrics come out you'll come scream at me"

i dunno i think its the second one, good song anytway i especially like the cello led part of "no matter what i said, no matter what i did"

I think this song is just a "dickish" way of saying he can't communicate in his own way. "we could continue on, with such nonsense to fill the days ..and we wont speak, of ugly things" I think this is just referring to the bullshitting people give eachother all day. Sometimes it's seems wrong to say what you mean, because nobody else is. And how honesty and emotion are so looked down upon.
This is just what it means to me...

I decided this is my favourite song out of all of Cursive's discography. In the beginning just listen to the instruments and the mess of sound they make.

I think this song is about how no matter what he sings about, we already know he's a dick. It's almost like we'll just translate his nonsense into whatever we've predecided about him. But at the same time he thinks he is a dick cuz that's how his songs have went before and that's what we expect of him, therefore he steps into the trap of his old lyrics and preconceptions.

That's my take on it anyway... maybe that's because I'm in a similar situation where people are judging me even though they don't have any real basis for it other than they're own biased opinions.

PS. the "do do do do do do do doo, ba da ba babaa" is him showing that he can even sing real nonsense and it still translates to ImaDick.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
