I won't go away
Right, right here, I stay

Stand silent in flames
Stand tall 'til it fades

Shoot me again, I ain't dead yet
Come on, shoot me again, I ain't dead yet
I said, shoot me again, I ain't dead yet
Come on, shoot me again, I ain't dead yet

Come on, shoot me again
Shoot me again, shoot me
Shoot me again, shoot me again
Come on, shoot me again
Shoot me again, shoot me
Shoot me again, shoot me again, come on

All the shots I take
I spit back at you
All the shit you fake
Comes back to haunt you

All the shots
All the shots

All the shots I take
What difference did I make?
All the shots I take
I spit back at you

I won't go away (with a bullet in my back)
Right, right here, I stay (with a bullet in my back)

Shoot me, shoot me
Shoot me, shoot me

I stand on my own (with a bullet in my back)
I'm stranded and sold (with a bullet in my back)

Shoot me again, I ain't dead yet
Go on, shoot me again, I ain't dead yet
Yeah, shoot me again, I ain't dead yet
Come on, shoot me again, I ain't dead yet

I said, shoot me again, shoot me again
Come on, shoot me again, shoot me again
Come on, shoot me again, shoot me again
Shoot me, shoot me again, shoot me again, yeah

All the shots I take
I spit back at you
All the shit you fake
Comes back to haunt you

All the shots
All the shots

All the shots I take
What difference did I make? (What difference did I make?)
All the shots I take
I spit back at you

Bite my tongue
Trying not to shoot back
No compromise
My heart won't pump the other way

Wake the sleeping giant
Wake the beast
Wake the sleeping dog
Don't let him sleep
Wake the sleeping giant
Wake the beast
Wake the sleeping dog
Don't let him sleep

Bite my tongue
Trying not to shoot back

All the shots I take
I spit back at you
All the shit you fake
Comes back to haunt you

All the shots
All the shots

All the shots I take
Hey, what difference did I make? (What difference did I make?)
Yeah, all the shots I take
I spit back at you

Basically put, this is from the point of view of either James himself or the entire band. Metallica, having not released an original cd in like 6 years, has put up with a lot of lip from everyone, even their own fans. I was turned into a skeptic myself. In retaliation, the song states that they are not backing off yet and that they are making a good effort, once again, to get back on top "i wont go away, right here i'll stay". Being "shot again" is metallica saying "bring that shit on", and "i bite my tongue, trying not to shoot back" is the final plea for everyone to shut the fuck up, for metallica will try to avoid sinking to the lowest depths of the angry critict. The last verse "wake the sleeping giant..." goes hand in hand with "I bit my tongue...", basically stating that they will let their hate and desire to fire back fade, or "sleep".

better than you, I agree totally. This is my favourite song on St. Anger, because of the meaning. I've been known to hang shit because of the whole Ja Rule thing, but damn these people screaming "sellouts!" are starting to piss me off big time.

The're tossers because they want money? Makes sense to me.

From what I gather you've gone out and paid for the album, yet you're calling the band a bunch of sell outs. Seems a tad hypocritical, yes?

Joey, works fine on my PC. That's weird, why would they be worried about MP3s, yet it works on almost everyone's PCs?

    Fuck off.

hey joey... maybe your computer's fucked up, or maybe you just don't like metallica... but I don't think they're a bunch of sellouts... they're succesful, yeah, but what do u want them to be? Never to be known by the public? shit... you probly weren't born yet when they were an underground band. But I can say the same and I am saying the same. I heard of metallica when they were succesful and they made a shitload of money for their cd's. big fuckin deal. they're still a good band, they still made good music. I don't see anything wrong with their attitudes, either. Secondly, and lastly, I think this song is about a man who's not afraid to die.

Why shouldn't Metallica have a fucking computer game?!! Bring that shit on, it'll be fucking cool! They have the money (that I may remind you, they earned through sheer hard work) so why the hell not? Seems like a fun idea to me.

Anyway, this song is fucking hilarious. Not my favourite song to listen to, but one of my favourites to sing while drunk or in public. AWWW SHOOT ME!

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
