I lost all faith today in suicidal featherweights
With broken wrists and weaker fists
This is the last fight I'll give away
And there’s something terrible locked in her attic,
so I'm told
I can feel it on my face
I still feel you everywhere

And operator I can't hold much longer,
can't hold much longer, can't hold on
And operator I can't hold much longer,
can't hold much longer, can't hold on

'Cause there’s a spot by a bathroom door
where I dropped so fast straight through the floor
when I lost my grip on everything
Eight feet under water is where we dare
Our locked lips keep out the water and the liars
full of nothing but air

So if anybody talks of me
tell them I am never coming home again,
tell them I am gone

There's a place that I might fit in,
but it reeks of where we’ve been
Perfect footprints from our feet
that our haunted just by me
To the lady of the hour, liquor love is all the rage
Your skin feels way too sour and I've lost my sense of taste

And operator I can't hold much longer,
can't hold much longer, can't hold on
And operator I can't hold much longer,
can't hold much longer, can't hold on

There's a hole that we all fall in
where we fight for oxygen
That’s where I caught my grip and became King
Eight feet undercover, don’t forget that I'm here
Warm secrets under covers with new friends
and your holiday lovers

So if anybody talks of me
tell them I am never coming home again,
tell them I am gone

If anybody talks of me
tell them I am never coming home again,
tell them I am gone

So if anybody talks of me
tell them I'll be gone forever
without these scars that are completly invisble

This has to be my favorite song on the cd... it seems as if he has been dumped and that all he knows is their love and without it, he doesnt know what to do anymore but to commit suicide..

I agree it has a little to do with suicide but theres more to it than that... i see it in three pieces... First, he loses everything and has thoughts of suicide... 'Cause there’s a spot by a bathroom door where I dropped so fast straight through the floor when I lost my grip on everything

Then he gets drunk and depressed and its all he can think about... retracing the relationship, where it went wrong."There's a place that I might fit in, but it reeks of where we’ve been Perfect footprints from our feet that our haunted just by me"

And then finally getting over it and relizing that it doesnt matter and there are plenty of other people out there... "That’s where I caught my grip and became King Eight feet undercover, don’t forget that I'm here Warm secrets under covers with new friends and your holiday lovers "

I think that this song means all of the above with a few additions. It's definitely about a failing and broken relationship, but I think it has to do with a failing relationship in which the girl is starting new relationships and slowly forgetting about the guy. I don't think it even neccessarily has to be a girlfriend (it probably is though). These are the lines that suggest this meaning:

"Eight feet undercover, don’t forget that I'm here Warm secrets under covers with new friends and your holiday lovers"

I don't know though. As it is with most Northstar songs, it's probably dealing with a lot of different things.

I agree with guitar player in that the lines

"Eight feet undercover, don't forget that I'm here Warm secrets under covers with new friends and your holiday lovers"

means that the girl is moving on and he is afraid she will forget him.

this song is kinda about a relationship but it is actually about a close friend of the band who died and it was played by the band at the funeral but they don't play it live. This is actually a very personal song to them

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Light Up The Sky

The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
