Let's get together and talk about the modern age
All of our friends were gathered there
With their pets, just talking shit
About how we're all so upset
About the disappearing ground
As we watch it melt

It's all of the good that won't come out of us
And how eventually our hands will just turn to dust
If we keep shaking them
Standing here on this frozen lake

I do this thing where I think I'm real sick
But I won't go to the doctor to find out about it
'Cause they make you stay real still in a real small space
As they chart up your insides and put them on display
They'd see all of it, all of me, all of it

All of the good that won't come out of me
And all the stupid lies I hide behind
It's such a big mistake
Lying here in your warm embrace

Oh, you're almost home
I've been waiting for you to come in
Dancing around in your old suits
Going crazy in your room again
I think I'll go out and embarrass myself
By getting drunk and falling down in the street
You say I choose sadness
That it never once has chosen me
Maybe you're right

Let's talk about all our friends who lost the war
And all of the novels that had yet to be written about them

It's all of the good that won't come out of them
And all the stupid lies they hide behind
It's such a big mistake
Standing here on this frozen lake

It's all of the good that won't come out of me
And how eventually, my mouth will just turn to dust
If I don't tell you quick
Standing here on this frozen lake

I think it is partly about people who complain about everything, but just stand by idle, instead of trying to change it. She is saying in the song that she is doing the same, and no good will come out of her, because she too is standing there idlely. Example is the first stanza, they ar complaining about the grownd melting, and they are just standing there watching it happen.

"all our friends who lost the war" -suicides.

this is a song about how in the world today people are miserable as ever and fake as ever, holding onto delusions and ignoring problems they have the ability to solve. we're on a 'frozen lake' that is bound to melt sometime soon and drown us. we all have such immense goodness inside that is so hard to bring out to the world. jenny is very prolific writer and it comes across in the beautiful lyrics...

just to add to you, dancinthemoonlight, it's also about being afraid to admit things to yourself, especially in the context of relationships. She's hurting herself by turning away from the fact that this guy keeps mistreating her, over and over again.

In other words, yes it is about keeping your mouth shut in the face of problems, but only because you're scared of the consequences, which of course, is ironic, since the consequence of saying nothing at all is silent suffering.

hi, im new here. i think this song is mainly about taking things for granted, about how we all just focus on all the negative things that will happen and never the positive. i guess i am basically saying the same as shmac, she notices all of these things but does nothing to change it. i am not very good at this so, im sorry, haha.

I agree with you Shmac215, but I think part of it is about bottling up your emotions and "not going to the doctor to find out about it." So feeling shitty about something but not bothering with it or acting on it and staying on the "frozen lake" until your "mouth turns to dust" because you're not talking about it to solve the problem.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
