Hey if we can't find a way out of these problems
Then maybe we don't need this
Standing face to face
Enemies at war we build defenses
And secret hiding places
I might need you to hold me tonight
I might need you to say it's all right
I might need you to make the first stand
Because tonight I'm finding it hard to be your man

Hey more than angry words I hate this silence
It's getting so loud
Well I want to scream
But bitterness has silenced these emotions
It's getting hard to breathe
So tell me isn't happiness
Worth more than a gold and diamond ring?
I'm willing to do anything
To calm the storm in my heart
I've never been the praying kind
But lately I've been down upon my knees
Not looking for a miracle
Just a reason to believe

I might need you to hold me tonight
I might need you to say it's all right
I might need you to make the first stand
Because tonight I'm finding it hard to be your man

Do you remember not long ago?
When we used to live for the night-time
Cherish each moment
Now we don't live we exist
We just run through our lives
So alone
That's why you've got to hold me

Hey, if we can't find a way out of these problems
Then maybe we don't need this
Standing face to face
Enemies at war we build defenses
And secret hiding places
I might need you to hold me tonight
I might need you to say it's all right
I might need you to make the first stand
Because tonight I'm finding it hard to be your man

Relationships are HARD. Hard times are inevitable. It involves two people trying to live one life. And the person you're sharing your life with becomes your other half and unfortunately, that means you take out all of your thoughts and emotions on that person. It's hard to bring 2 lifes together. Sometimes walls and defenses are built up and it gets to the point where neither of you are sure what you're fighting about anymore. And although you truly love one another, it gets to the point where love just isn't enough.

Every relationship goes through a stage where both don't think that it will last. But in this case, he obviously really wants to pull through this bad stage. He states that defences were built from each other but neither wants to be the first one to take a stand and tear them down.

    i really like this song.

"So tell me isn't happiness Worth more than a gold diamond ring?"

i like that line because it means that being happy is more important than staying in a bad relationship.

I think it's about two exes... they're both still in love with eachother, but they won't admit it because they're both afraid of being hurt again. "bitterness has silenced these emotions" But now he's ready to give it another try "I'm willing to do anything to calm the storm in my heart" admirable courage!

    I love...

"I've never been the praying kind but lately I've been down upon my knees not looking for a mircale, just a reason to believe."

Sigh, I know exactly what he means. I think that's why I love Savage Garden so much... they always know how to describe emotions.

Also, those few lines remind me of The Mists of Avalon (by Marion Zimmer Bradly) because the entire story is about people searching for faith.

I always felt this song was about a moment in a relationship when you just don't care anymore. You're sick of always being first to take a stand and just want them to take charge for a while.

This song has very significant meaning for me and my hunny. We both get really angry at each other and sometimes we both feel like giving up. But this song gives us both faith that everything's going to be okay if we're willing to try and patch things up. There's more to a good relationship than simply having love for the person.

I remember Darren saying that this song was written about the last period of his marriage...they loved each other but still kept on hurting themselves with arguments and there were no way back. It describes so perfectly the sense of having to end it for your own good...but how much you would give to save it. And you know it's goodbye...but you still need that person to hold you for the last time...to end in good terms such an important thing in your life.

This song is amazing, definitely my favorite savage garden song. I think it describes a point in a relationship where all the love isn't worth all of the arguements. It's not working, no matter how much they want it to.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
