I lie in an early bed, thinking late thoughts
Waiting for the black to replace my blue
I do not struggle in your web
Because it was my aim to get caught
But daddy longlegs, I feel that I'm finally growing weary
Of waiting to be consumed by you
Give me the first taste, let it begin heaven cannot wait
Forever
Darling, just start the chase - I'll let you win but you must
Make the endeavor
Oh, your love gives me a heart contusion
Adagio breezes fill my skin with sudden red
Your hungry flirt borders intrusion
I'm building memories on things we have not said
Full is not heavy as empty
Not nearly my love
Not nearly my love
Not nearly
Give me the first taste, let it begin heaven cannot wait
Forever
Darling, just start the chase - I'll let you win, but you must
Make the endeavor

Obviously, each person can take the same song and interpret it completely different. That's one of the beauties of music. Although, I will say I do like knowing the REAL meaning of a song by the artist. I think a lot of people have the same IDEA of this beautiful song by Fiona Apple. My meaning of the song, I think I am leading towards is because it's a kind of personal song for me. I am going through something and to me this song fits quite well. I think I am more so basing this song off of my feelings more so. Anyway, to me this song means:

I think she is in this complicated "thing" with a man. I don't even want to say a relationship. I think she has known a man for awhile, and obviously she wants him. I think one night they may have had a wonderful night, maybe even sex together. They may be even friends, sex partners, something of that sort. I think she got attached to this man, but I think it's pretty plain and simple on his part. He may not want anything serious, no relationship. Just wild wonderful nights together every once in awhile. Nothing serious. Just fun. I think she really craves and yearns for this man inside and out. I think she wants more than just sex, or just a night together every so often. I think she has deep feelings for him but knows it's not the same on his part. I think she is aware of that and settles. Have you ever wanted something so badly that it hurt? So badly that you are willing to put up with something that makes you miserable just so you can have ONE night (maybe even once in awhile) with this person. Just so you can have any piece of them? I think this is the case in this song. I think she wants him so badly. I think she is quite depressed knowing they aren't more than just a fling, or something not serious. I think she is on the hunt for his heart, and he's on the hunt for what's between her legs. He may even care about her to a certain extent, but not as a girlfriend.

"I lie in an early bed, thinking late thoughts. Waiting for the black to replace my blue" Could be her laying there the morning after he was there with her. The bed still warm from their night together. When, she's not in that world with him, she's depressed. She is consumed by him, and is unhappy until they cross paths, and do the heartbreak all over again.

"I do not struggle in your web Because it was my aim to get caught But daddy longlegs, I feel that I'm finally growing weary Of waiting to be consumed by you" Obviously, she wants him and isn't going to play games, or pretend she doesn't want him. She can't wait until the next time she is with him.

"Give me the first taste, let it begin heaven cannot wait Forever Darling, just start the chase - I'll let you win but you must Make the endeavor" Simple as this: I am here when you want me. Come quick. I want you. I need you. Show me you want me too, and I will be there. I will let you in.

"Oh, your love gives me a heart contusion. Adagio breezes fill my skin with sudden red" She's crazy about him, and the Adagio breezes fill my skin with sudden red part. like the one person said.. could be embarrassed, excited, or something of that sort.

"Your hungry flirt borders intrusion. I'm building memories on things we have not said" She's crazy for him still lol. Every little thing he does, drives her mad. She feels hurt, upset and not so good feelings for the most part because she wants to close to him, she wants him to be hers. She feels violated sometimes. and as for the 2nd verse, she wants more.... like a relationship. She's thinking things up about them. She's fantasizing. She's wishing there was more, and wanting more. She's thinking about the future between the two of them.

"Full is not heavy as empty Not nearly my love Not nearly my love Not nearly" I don't really have a thought at the moment.

BUT like I said, I am just going through personal struggles at the moment, and this is what I get from the song. Whether, I'm right or wrong it doesn't really matter to me. It's just what I think and feel. Well, and what I wish the song would be about since I could relate to one of the most beautiful talented women out there. More than I already do relate to her.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
