"Your Song" as written by Elton John, Bernie Taupin and Wu Huim....
It's a little bit funny this feeling inside
I'm not one of those who can easily hide I
Don't have much money but boy if I did
I'd buy a big house where we both could live
If I was a sculptor but then again no
Or a man who makes potions in a traveling show
Oh I know it's not much but it's the best I can do
My gift is my song
And this one's for you

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world

I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss
Well a few of the verses well they've got me quite cross
But the sun's been quite kind
While I wrote this song
It's for people like you that
Keep it turned on

So excuse me forgetting
But these things I do
You see I've forgotten
If they're green or they're blue
Anyway the thing is what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but
Now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world

MemoryThis was my wedding song...I actually cried during my wedding dance--its a powerful song--beautiful and touching...typical Taupin-John---GREAT lyrics and melodies

General CommentIn 1990 I was unemployed and I couldn't afford to buy my girlfriend a birthday present. I wrote a song for her and recorded it on my home 4-track studio while she was at work, just electric piano, bass guitar, synth, drum machine and vocals. I gave her a cassette of the song and she said it was the best present ever. We've now been married for nearly 9 years and have two children. So it does work...

General CommentI personally think this song is about a child being born, i like to think of it as about in love with a boy or girlfriend but i think it may be about a child.

General CommentThis is the best of Elton John's songs as far as I'm concerned.

Makes my heart flutter and "magic". ;)

My InterpretationI know this is a love song, but whenever I hear it I think of it as a song from a parent to her child, especially the Ellie Goulding version. When she talks about buying a house for them, and 'how wonderful it is now that you're in THE world,' not in MY world.... That's all I can hear. And I think it's quite beautiful, one way or the other.

General Commentthe last verse is a classic example of timeless lyrics. Elton almost sounds like he's having a conversation throughout this song, rather than singing. That makes it more effective.

General CommentYou have to remember that elton didn't write the lyrics to any of his old songd. Just the music. His partner Bernie is who you should love.

General CommentI was watching a TV show about Elton John and Bernie Taupin a while back. Elton said that Bernie wrote this song for a girl he was either seeing at the time. Whatever Elton might have been thinking about when he sang it, it was written for a girl.

My OpinionQuite frankly I think this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. It's such a simple yet romantic love song. You can feel similar emotions to what Bernie was feeling when he wrote the song. And for any guy that's ever loved a girl I think you can easily relate.
