I've been waiting patiently for this day to arrive and
I have spoken not a single word,
Now hand to hand my voice shall be heard

No Michael
Not this time,
I've been waiting for oh so long, oh so long

I've accepted silently this name I've been given and
I have heard it pass the lips of everyone,
Now if you will inquire, ask of your Father
And he may tell you of his brightest Son

No Michael
Not this time,
I've been waiting for oh so long

No Michael,
Not this time,
I've been growing oh so strong

Now in true glory
I'll rise again, ahh

I've been waiting patiently for this day and this time
I shall not be alone,
Not this time, not this time,
Not this time, not this time

    Song Meaning

The song is named "Michael" referencing the Arch Angel Michael. Michael is an angel that is mentioned in Christianity, Jewish teachings and even in Islam. In this song it is a Christian angle. The song is told by the view of Satan in a confrontational tone towards the arch angel Michael who in the Book of Revelation defeats Satan.

Satan has been waiting "patiently for this day to arrive"... the battle told in Revelations. Satan is claiming he finally has a chance to have his voice be heard. This is why the song sings 'I've been waiting oh so long". Satan grumbles about accepting his fate on earth for so long and accepted the name he is now referred to (since he use to be an angel). He is ready to battle Michael knowing when he defeats him he will "rise again". All references about a Father refers to God. About being the brightest SON (not sun)... meaning... God will look at him in favor again after he defeats Michael. It is a pretty cool song that takes a sinister twist on Satan's eagerness to battle; how satan feels cheated by all of Michael's accomplishments but will FINALLY prove himself after all this time. He will no longer be stuck on earth... alone... not this time... not this time... not this time.

Then the song ends... before the battle begins - giving the listener the idea Satan is hyped for this fight and has a good chance to win. However, the song ends before it is told Satan is destroyed and humiliated in the worst way and in a complete OPPOSITE of what he thought would happen. Michael wins.

Son of Sam definitely embraced Samhain's tone with this song.

Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
