I believe the line you are referring to is the one which follows "You never carry tools" and is often mistakenly transcribed as "not even sweary q's." The line is actually "Not even square, he cube". It's a play on words. One meaning of the word "square", as is commonly known, is "a person who is conventional or conservative in taste or way of life". Another meaning of the word "square" is "the product of a number multiplied by itself". Then a meaning of the word "cube" is "the product of a number multiplied by itself TWICE". So T.I. is saying that the person referred to is even worse than "square" (conventional, conservative), he's "cube", as "cube" is "square" TWICE. That's what it is, though admittedly it's hard to pick up on. |

Ok, we know that Dion once said "Runaround Sue" was not a reference to his wife, Sue. Then on the Oprah Winfrey Show, it was revealed that it was about his wife. I find it interesting that this song is about a girl who might be involved with multiple guys...hence the "claps" throughout the song. Call me crazy, but music from this era (50s, 60s) was loaded with ambiguous sexual humor and references that seemed ahead of their time. The "clapping" represents chlamydia, known as "The Clap" in slang terms. Now...do you see how dirty this song must have seemed to the older generations in 1961? Dion was a badass. |

The 2nd to last time Michael sings "I'm not supposed to be like this, but it's ok", it almost sounds (with the multiple vocals going on) that he is REALLY saying "I'm not supposed to be gay -- but it's okay". I think it is possibly the true depth of the song. Stipe was not publicly "out" as a gay man yet, so he is attempting to give us all a little hint about it...and the song, overall, refers to the sadness and isolation that people feel in a world that simply doesn't accept gay people (now we do, but in 1988/89, it was still a slightly shocking subject). Stipe felt the isolation of being an intelligent person with a great voice who could not (at the time) openly 'reveal' ;) his preferences...and possibly being treated like a 'freak' and to be bullied because of this. |

The falling sparrow is someone who commits a crime and lies about it that causes the people to live bitterly becomes of it and are influenced to commit similar crimes and causes just an onslaught of evil incarnate. The falling part is only expressive of the fact that they're old and on the way out and only then realize what they've done probably because the evil started impacting them too while they were caught up reaping the rewards from the lie In a short stage of their life they try and tell everyone what's happened but they lies are so much older that the people just believe it even coming from him Then as the song repeats a lot it's all just desperate pleading for spirits to listen, for the angels to catch him, asking for forgiveness in the afterlife instead of living in "silent darkness" as the first part says that he realized he was going towards. It might even be suggesting that they give up and live the rest of their life in dark silence, giving up as no one would listen, no longer being able to make a difference. Also no idea if the 'fallen' part and the album being aeronautics are interconnected. Either way, this is the clearest interpretation I could formulate. /out |

It makes sense to me in the context of the general meaning I get from the song and the line "the witness was the Cascades".
