Death Cab for Cutie – Styrofoam Plates Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is NOT about Ben's father. It is based on a true story, though. On the live DVD, Drive Well, Sleep Carefully, Ben explains the song. He wrote it after being at the funeral of one of his friends' father. It made him sick that even though he was a miserable father everyone still tried to say something nice. This song is about his honest reaction. |
Kevin Devine – Letting A Good One Go Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This perfectly fits my relationship. I was always so afraid of losing her, that I never got to enjoy the time we had. Great song. |
The Gloria Record – Ascension Dream Lyrics | 18 years ago |
FACT: This song is about a deer. When the Gloria homepage was up, Chris had kind of an online diary. Nothing special, only a few entries. One was about a dream he had, that included a deer.Hence Ascension Dream. And an even stronger proof: I got a TGR t-shirt, that hes these lines printed on, and next to the lyrics stands a deer. So, yeah, this song is about hitting a deer. |
Old Canes – Face It Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Great. Just replace "the ring" with "the watch" and this songs is perfectly made for me. Fucking exboyfriends. |
Simon Joyner – Came a Yellow Bird Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's a very sad song. I mean especially the last line. He says he never wanted to harm anybody else, he just wants to die. But by wishing for this he hurts her, as every time he wishes he was dead an arrow was released. And in the end, ... he drags her down with him. |
Death Cab for Cutie – What Sarah Said Lyrics | 18 years ago |
THIS is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. I cannot stand its beauty. Unbelievable. The picture that is drawn by the words, you can really imagine the situation, sitting in the waiting room where all these old magazines lie around, the tv's on, while everyone is waiting for the bad news. But he justs sits there and thinks to himself: To love is watching someone die. This so amazing, I cannot think of any lyrics as powerful and beautiful. And the piano sound is oh so heavenly. This is truely a masterpiece. |
Mineral – Take the Picture Now Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Notsleeping, I have to wonder why you say one the few songs that transmits happiness. I think most of their songs have a very positive feeling to it. |

Mineral – 80-37 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I'm still waiting for some to put God into this song, ... Geez, ... But seriously, as MDMaster said, it's about childhood nostalgia, ever so beautiful described. Best band ever, ... |
Mineral – Love Letter Typewriter Lyrics | 19 years ago |
No, it's not "for sure" about God. Chris wrote so many songs about his aunt (Ivadell) and his Brother (Matthew) that it's more likely that he is talking to one of them. One thing I love about Mineral (besides many many others things) is the universal meaning of their songs. So please don't reduce it to God, okay?! Thanks. |
Bright Eyes – Padraic My Prince Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"The song is about the fact that his mother had all of her children baptised. In many of the songs there is the rejection of Catholicism. It is the guilt associated with being a Catholic and drowning in that guilt that he is talking about." This is by far the most realistic attempt to put any meaning to this whole drowning imagery. Works great for me! |
Bright Eyes – Saturday as Usual Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I agree it`s a great song. But what makes it hard for me to really identify with this song is "and mom is in the kitchen and her cake says that I'm thirteen" Thirteen?! Touched by words that a thirteen year old boy wrote? I don`t know, it feels strange. |
Bright Eyes – Going for the Gold Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I saw Conor live the other day. It was only him and his guitar, no band. He played that song and at the end "and then the melody comes pouring out her eyes now to me everything else it just sounds like a lie." he kept repeating to scream "a lie" "a lie" "a lie" and when the song slowly faded out he turned away and then silently repeating these words like whispering them to himself. It was so emotional, my whole body shivered. |
The Appleseed Cast – E To W Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Either that or he has become so numb that even these words don`t mean anything to him anymore. |
The Appleseed Cast – E To W Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It`s not that he isn`t impressed by the words I Love You. He just isn`t impressed by "such nonsense as saying i love you". Some people seem to believe they could escape an arguement by simply saying nice things like I love you, without even meaning it. Saying these words in situations where there is no need for them is nonsense. |
Bright Eyes – I Won't Ever Be Happy Again Lyrics | 20 years ago |
In the song "The Movement Of A Hand" it says, "Soon all the joy that pours from everything makes fountains of your eyes because you finally understand the movement of a hand waving you good-bye." I really like the connections you can draw between certain songs and thereby widen their meaning. |
The Good Life – Off the Beaten Path Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"I'm done with the morning of a day without ending." Great line. Edited by mellow_harsher on May 28 2006, at 05:02PM |
Death Cab for Cutie – Photobooth Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I haven't listened to the song yet *shameonme* but reading the lyrics already touched me deeply "All the slander and doublespeak were only foolish attempts to show you did not mean anything But the blatant proof was your lips touching mine in a photobooth." |
Now It's Overhead – A Skeleton on Display Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"Of all the nights we held each other dear, Never did I dream your grip would end. And your breath against my neck I fear was my only reason for breathing." This is pure magic. |
Now It's Overhead – The Decision Made Itself Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"I'm facing up to it with nothing to lose The decision made itself" The way the guitar tune drops at the end of these lines makes my heart drop. |
The Get Up Kids – Sick in Her Skin Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Definitely the most intense song on the new album. How they build up the tension (starts at 2:25) to the climax when everything seems to sink into chaos. Sreaming "It's all over now" in such an emotional way it gets me close to tears and makes me wanna scream my heart out. |
Converge – Color Me Blood Red Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I think it's about suicide, dying in a bathroom, in a bathtub; "this warm wated floods my nostrils" and "Faucet turning " hint at this. "I have spilled " could mean that he slit his wrists, and spilled blood, hence the title "color me blood red". A terrifying image, lying in red water. And the final line is rather see through: "This is the end". |

The Promise Ring – Nothing Feels Good Lyrics | 21 years ago |
"Summers in park and recreation pools, and carsick vacations in size eleven in "I'm going to heaven" shoes." Ok, this sounds really weird, but on the other hand it's obvious what this song is about: "I don't know anything". This is indeed a vey sad song. |

Jimmy Eat World – Episode IV Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Can anyone tell me what to do with these lines: "And you know I almost lost my will to live." If it really was a romantic and beautiful moment then I don't understand these lines. More likely it appears to be a very sad memory. |
Jimmy Eat World – Goodbye Sky Harbor Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Owen says this to his best friend when he (Owen) is slowly fading from live. Quote: 'Then he looked only at me. 'You're getting smaller, but I can still see you' said Owen Meany. Then he left us; he was gone. I could tell by his almost cheerful expression that he was at least as high as the palm trees." (end quote) |
Jimmy Eat World – Hear You Me Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I think this song is referring to the book "A Prayer For Owen Meany" written by John Irving. Jimmy Eat World were quoting from this book before (cf. Goodby Sky Harbour). In the book Owen says this prayer for his best friend's mother who died. And at the end of the book, this best friend says the same prayer for Owen. "Hear you me my friend" totally makes sense, because the protagonist misses his best friend, his friend with his big heart. I don't think it is only referring to this book, though. But this song seems to be inspired by it. Personally I don't think it has anything to do with mykel and Charlie. It rather has an universal meaning (but there is a least a link to the book). Well, bascially this song seems to deal with losing someone you love. |
The Casket Lottery – Home Is... Lyrics | 21 years ago |
"If angels can fly, then so can I. Just lift me up. It's only your help that I want." Probably the best moment on this cd! |
Dashboard Confessional – This Bitter Pill Lyrics | 21 years ago |
He has made his decision and thereby destroyed something („now that you've run this in the ground“), possibly a relationship or at least a friendship. And now it’s not just running away from facing the problems, or making a decision. This time it’s final, nothing he can do, but just walk away. This appears to be hard, and probably hurts him, but he knows that he deserves it, that it is right and tells himself to accept it, „to take this“. But the awful truth („this medicine“, this bitter pill“) is too hard to face, he can’t deal with it, it destroys him („swallow, choke and die“). The consequence of his decision, the „bitter“ truth that follows, is all there is left. He has nothing but his anger, probably regrets about his deed. His „angry mouth“ is „void of all discretion“ because this time he has nothing to lose, there’s no holding back. His pain and the intensity of his feelings are expressed in this „awful tearing sound“. This intensity can only be equaled by the power of his stare. Even though he made his decision, to walk away, she’s still there, and he can’t cease to look at her, becaue he misses her. He stares at her since he realizes what he has given up, what he has voluntarily lost. It’s a desperate situation, and to him it seems like „this feeling of despair is never wearing out“. But the moment it does wear out, he feels empty and is facing his old problems again. The head knows that his decision was right, but the „heavy heart“ doesn’t feel it, it doesnt’t „match“. He can’t seem to live in this conflict, he can’t end it proberly so he’s looking for another way out („the bottle - alcohol, pills, etc, - is waiting“). At last, he gives in in what his heart wants, it appears to be stronger than his mind. But still he knows that this is wrong, he will only „be used“ and therefore again all that he feels is anger and despair, that is „never wearing out". Never. |

The Gloria Record – A Lull In Traffic Lyrics | 21 years ago |
"No matter how different you are, you're just like everybody else. No matter how hard you try and fit in, there is no one like you." Gives me shivers everytime. But it isn't their best song. Best song award would probably go to "Omaha" or "Salvation Army". Or "... and is it ever?". But maybe Ambulance is their best song. "Cinema Air" isn't that bad either,... ;-)) |
From Autumn to Ashes – Short Stories With Tragic Endings Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Man, I wish Rebecca could hear this song. Would probably save me a lot of writing. But as mentioned before:"Doesn't is suck to be able to relate to a song about not being able to have what you want?" Anyway, great song! |
Mineral – Love My Way Lyrics | 22 years ago |
