Panic! at the Disco – Mercenary Lyrics 12 years ago
Really? I think it's Dr. Strange speaking, since it look like he's becoming a more important villian in both Arkham City and The Dark Knight Rises. Especially when he calls him a 'speciman'.

"Hey mister, the bellman says, I can only recall last night's hotel, I said
So he replies, "Then how do you manage?"
I dodge the blast, and apologize for collateral damage"
-I'm pretty sure this is Batman speaking as Bruce Wayne. He hides that he's been out all night as Batman by pretending that he's really been out partying and remembers nothing of last night except the name of the hotel. The bellman asks how he can do all this (meaning Wayne's success, not his role as Batman) and he replies with a line that can be taken two ways: literally, because he's actually Batman and he literally has to avoid getting killed and then apologize for the mess the villains are making. OR metaphorically, in that Wayne avoids trouble as a businessman and is always apologetic. So he safely answers the bellman's question while still alluding to the fact that he's Batman.

A Day to Remember – All I Want Lyrics 12 years ago
I don't think anyone really "sells out". I think it's more that people and bands change and wanna try different things. But honestly, I don't think this even applies to ADTR cause this new album doesn't sound like much of a departure from Homesick. It's a little less heavy, but that's really it.

"I'm always screaming my lungs out
till my head starts spinning.
Playing my songs is the way I cope with life.
Won't keep my voice down.
Know the words I speak are the thoughts I think out loud."
-His music is honest and it's what makes life easier for him. The things he can't say, he sings. So since he feels so passionately about it he does it with all his heart until he physically can't anymore. And he wants to get that across first and foremost, which is why he starts the song with this verse.

"I like to keep things honest.
I'm a safe bet like your life's staked on it. For real.
I'd hate to keep you all wondering.
I'm constant like the seasons, and I will never be forgotten man."
-More about being honest and letting people in, but now it's more about being brutally honest. He's himself and will always be himself whether other people like it or not. But if you keep faith in him and trust in what he's saying he'll be around forever, never letting anything change him, thus keeping him "constant".

"Let's leave no words unspoken
and save regrets for the broken.
Will you even look back when you think of me?"
-My favorite part :). The band is gonna say everything they wanna say and be everything they wanna be. They won't regret anything because that would be accepting defeat and turning their backs on everything they once believed. After all, you really can't regret anything because at one time that's what you wanted. I think the last line he means that since the band is constantly moving forward, will an outsider or fan even have time to look back on all of the shit that's happened in the past. They're constantly moving forward and doing bigger, better things. Also I believe the quote is usually 'Will you even think of me when you look back?', which implies that he's stuck in the past, but since he's not, he's switched it around to be constantly in the present and future.

"All I want is a place to call my own,
and mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone
Whoa
You know to keep your hopes up high and your head down low.
Keep your hopes up high and your head down low."
-He wants a place to belong, not just for himself but for everyone like him who's ever had to suffer, been made to be something they're not, or had their heart broken. You don't have to be alone because there's a place for you if you look long and hard enough. Just be humble in keeping your head low but on the inside keep hope that you'll find that place and be happy.

"Still got something left to prove.
It tends to keep things moving.
While everyone around me says my last days are looming overhead
But just what the hell do they think they know?
I keep my head above the water while they drown in the undertow"
-He doesn't stop working because he's still gotta prove himself to the non-believers and haters. These are the people saying they have no chance at becoming any more successful than they've already been, but the band ignores them and in the end, they're the ones still alive and succeeding while the ones who doubted them are failing and falling into obscurity.

"If you take it from me,
Live your life for yourself.
Cause when it's all said and done you don't need anyone else.
Come on!"
-Don't let anyone get you down or tell you what to do or who to be, basically.

"So let's get back to when everything seemed perfect.
Not a worry in the world, tell me was this all worth it?
I get what I want, so everyone's always judging me.
I'm not afraid of anything, and I've got the whole world in front of me."
-Looking back on a time when everything was going just right and wondering if that time will affect them now ('Homesick' era/earlier success). Unlike the other successful bands from that time, ADTR is still going strong, so the less successful bands are talking shit about them WHILE outsiders are still judging them for being the kind of band they are. But the band knows they've got a lot to do and a lot of oppertunities on the horizon so they have nothing to worry about but themselves.

Florence + the Machine – Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) Lyrics 12 years ago
I caught the Alice references pretty quickly: "looking glass", "pill", "the rabbit". Maybe comparing the journey into the music industry to Alice's journey into Wonderland? Both places are strange, new, and unfamiliar to the main subjects and both must go through a series of trials before eventually becoming 'queen' (Alice becomes Queen of Wonderland in Through the Looking Glass). Unrelated, but I really love the bit "Midas is king and he holds me so tight/And turns me to gold in the sunlight". Like if she lets the industry nurture her she'll come out shining :)

Silversun Pickups – Growing Old Is Getting Old Lyrics 12 years ago
This song is something serene, almost ethereal. It's like he realizes he and everyone around him is getting older and he doesn't like it. Maybe he feels he's aging faster than the person he's talking to and the person is afraid to move forward in life and get older. Because growing older means a new set of responsibiliies and expectations. Moving into the cold may not mean moving on towards the afterlife, but into the coldness that exists in the real world. Maybe instead of an adult becoming an old man, it's a child becoming an adult. That's supported by the parts that sound like they're describing the birth of a child. And he's giving the advice in the chorus saying 'don't be afraid to speak, you don't need to be guided anymore so don't let people try and control you. And if you don't apply this advice you'll remain fearful of the future'. I feel he's accepted the fact that he's getting older and is trying to help those around him who haven't accepted it. It sounds sorrowful in the song's tone, but it lifts itself up beautifully halfway through.

Falling In Reverse – Good Girls Bad Guys Lyrics 12 years ago
I actually agree with moonshadowbird. Clearly this girl isn't exactly good if she's willing to do all this dirty stuff. And just having seen some interviews with Ronnie I don't think he's incapable of being a good guy. In all honesty, no one is strictly good or bad 100% of the time. But that's looking a little too deep into a song that's meant to have a basic meaning and I guess be funny. I've personally never been a fan of how Ronnie treats women and portrays them in his music as well as his cockiness with them and this song isn't helping me think better of him...

Akon – Hold My Hand Lyrics 13 years ago
Anyone else think this sounds a little like it's a rip off of "Hold My Hand" by Hootie and the Blowfish? Not hating on MJ, I'm glad to see they're putting out his unreleased stuff, but this definitely sounds like a bit of a rip to me.

Matchbox Twenty – Unwell Lyrics 13 years ago
I think the song is about mental illness, especially depression and paranoia. When you're depressed and paranoid you always think people are watching you and judging you, and as much as you want to tell them that you aren't usually like this, you can't bring yourself to do it. Or else people actually will think you're crazy. But it's nothing to worry about, because a lot of people have been there and come out better than before. It's just a matter of sticking it out, and showing the people around you that you can get through it and they'll see the better side once you win the fight.

Lady GaGa – Paparazzi Lyrics 13 years ago
I think paparazzi has two meanings here. She's trying to get this presumably famous guy to fall in love with her, so she's showering him with attention and treating him special to the point where she's become a desperate stalker. But she's only doing it so she can become famous as well and have people showering HER with attention and special treatment. She doesn't really love him, at least not more than she loves the fame she's after. It's all an act; she and those around her are "plastic" but "still have fun" because it gets them celebrity treatment.

As for the line "loving you is cherry pie", "cherry pie" is a term for something that's sweet and simple. So loving him is sweet and easy for her. Hope that clears things up a little.

The Goo Goo Dolls – Slide Lyrics 13 years ago
This is my favorite song ever. Not even kidding. I accepted the idea that the song is about a Jewish boy who falls in love with a Catholic girl. Parents don't approve, so he wants her to run away with him. "The life you killed" is the religious part of her life. I had no idea the girl actually had a name though. I always thought he said "Oh man" not "Oh May". The idea that this song is about abortion is totally believable too (you know, other than the fact the band said it was about abortion XP). It does sound like at the beginning he's singing about her sleeping around and having little control over her life. No matter what it's about, I still think it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. There's nothing I don't like about this song =).

All Time Low – Six Feet Under the Stars Lyrics 13 years ago
It's about a cute little awkward date with some Baltimore shout-outs thrown in. Really love the play on words in the title, "Six Feet Under the Stars". Refers to how awkward but romantic his dating situation is in a really clever way. =)

The Spill Canvas – All Over You Lyrics 13 years ago
It's pretty blatantly about a guy who wants this girl back. It's pretty radio friendly for the Spill Canvas but I like it nonetheless. Something about the pacing of this song and the guitar just really works out nicely.

Fall Out Boy – A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More "Touch Me" Lyrics 13 years ago
Obviously it's the classic story of a boy trying to get with a girl. But cause of the title of this song, I always see in my head Fall Out Boy as high schoolers trying and failing at getting the girls like a classic 80's teen flick. Just looking at how the lyrics progress, it really does feel like an 80's teen movie in 00's, pop-punk form.

Elliott Smith – Miss Misery Lyrics 13 years ago
I love the double meaning of this song. It can be about a break up (which is what it implies when applied to Good Will Hunting) or about depression. Miss Misery is an ex-girlfriend AND an emotion that plagues Elliott.

Fall Out Boy – This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race Lyrics 13 years ago
Love this song. Pretty sure the easy explaination is this song is about how the "scene" Fall Out Boy is sucked in with (the "emo/pop-punk" scene) is actually quite competitive and not just about having fun. The guys of FOB are saying with this song that if they're gonna be lumped into this scene then they're gonna be on top. So long as people are singing their songs that's what's important. Because Fall Out Boy was on this scene first, therefore they're calling themselves the best and that won't change. He's saying he can lie and get away with it because these kiddies just trying to be apart of the scene will believe anything with Fall Out Boy's name on it. Overall, the song is arrogant because it has to be.

Yellowcard – Ocean Avenue Lyrics 13 years ago
I first heard this song when the music video came on in my local movie theatre prior to the previews. I thought it was so cool I recognized Ocean Avenue and Cherry Street because I live so close to Jersey and spend a lot of time there every summer. Then I did more research and realized the song is about Florida and California... WHOOPS, lol. Either way, this is THE summer song for my age group in the Philly/Jersey area. The street names were just very convienient =).

30 Seconds to Mars – Night of the Hunter Lyrics 13 years ago
When I first saw the title, I instantly thought of the film Night of the Hunter. The second verse can definitely be applied to the film (without giving too much away): his marrying the cell mate's widow, his hunt for the children and the money, his murderous rage towards "loose women". As for the first verse, I'm not as sure. It could be about having a horrible childhood and rising above it to "get revenge" on those who did him wrong. But he's going about it in a violent and sociopathic manner. "I was hung from a tree made of tongues of the weak/The branches, the bones of the liars, the thieves" sounds like he was verbally attacked by those of weak mind and will, like "the liars, the thieves". Branches and bones can be related metaphorically (branches are the bones of a tree?)

As for the bridge I relate this more to the film. The villain is a preacher and killer, which explains the biblical references like "Pray to your god, open your heart", and he's after two kids. "Whatever you do, don't be afraid of the dark" sounds like something you'd say to a kid to calm them down and get what you want out of them. As for "Cover your eyes, the devil's inside" sounds like he's trying to warn people to stay away from him, same with "Honest to God, I'll break your heart/Tear you to pieces and rip you apart".

I wish I knew why I didn't listen to this song when the album first came out! It could easily become my new favorite.

Death Cab for Cutie – A Lack of Color Lyrics 13 years ago
I think everyone else has pretty much got it figured out. I see it as this guy sees this girl for who she truly is. They think the problems in the relationship are no big deal, just "a lack of color", no vibrancy in the relationship, when "It's really bursting at the seams". She leaves and he wants her back but he didn't give her a reason to stay.

Really love this song. It's extremely sad but it's so pretty.

Sick Puppies – Cancer Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is so badass. It's about this guy trying to rebel from the normal destructive lives lead by the majority of folks in the world. He tries to infultrate their way of life and see if he can change things but instead his plan backfires and he conforms to the same hopeless way of life everyone else is leading, becoming what he once rebelled against. By the end of the song he realizes what he's done and sees how blind we all are. We could be productive and making the world better. Instead we only make it worse.

I adore the instrumentation in this song. The percussion is fantastic and the guitars on top only enhance it. I wish this song would get more airplay. It'd be an instant hit!

O.A.R. – Love Is Worth the Fall Lyrics 13 years ago
I really love this song. I know it's not typical O.A.R., but what's "typical" doesn't really interest me. So long as it's good. Which I think this is.

Anyway, it's about this guy who really loves this girl but thinks he has to do all of this stuff to impress her so she'll love him. He's trying to figure out just what'll make this girl fall for him and he's willing to do anything cause she's worth it. Really pretty, but dear God, I hope it wasn't suppose to have anything to do with Twilight.

OneRepublic – Everybody Loves Me Lyrics 13 years ago
I think the song is suppose to make a mockery of the celebrity lifestyle. Everybody wants to be your friend, everybody's waiting on you hand and foot, everybody loves you. Nickelback – Just For Lyrics 13 years ago
Someone gave me the idea that this song is from the point of view of a guy whose new girlfriend has an asshole ex-boyfriend who was mean to her and treated her bad (maybe not abuse, but definitely mistreatment) and now he wants to teach the ex a lesson and show him how much he cares about the girl that the other guy did wrong and let go of.

Trapt – Who's Going Home With You Tonight Lyrics 13 years ago
I feel like it's about this guy who meets a girl and hangs out with her a lot on a "friend" level but he really likes her more ("both you and I have always kept it bottled up inside"). So he finds out that she's a party girl and just let's men control her OR she uses men to get what she wants. So now he feels like one of those used guys but he still really loves her and wants to help her change. Except she doesn't wanna change, so they have to say goodbye.

I love how the guy sings this song. He just sounds so genuinely concerned for this girl, like he's really using this song to try and help her. His delivery makes the song even better.

Maybe not drugs, but maybe "high off of life"? Or like... well here's how I see it: He lives in his own fantasy world because he sees his dreams as a means of escape. KINDA like what you're saying about drugs, but in this case, his drug is fantasizing. Either way, it's unhealthy. And he's trying to pull others into this fantasy world of his through this song. Trying to find out if others feel the same way he does.

Radiohead – Karma Police Lyrics 13 years ago
I thought of Karma Police as being similar to Orwell's Thought Police from the book 1984. The Karma Police make sure you get what's coming to you when you do bad or good. In this case, Thom Yorke is like a cop for the karma police and acting out, arresting people when they aren't truly doing anything wrong (This is what you'll get/When you mess with us), and then realizes at the end that he's been acting out and doing wrong (For a minute there/I lost myself). I like the idea of there being karma police. It's a really interesting and creative concept.

No lie, this is one of my favorite songs of all time. There's something so magical about it. I think this is as poetic as rock music can get while still being radio-friendly. It's so carefree sounding and just an all-around beautifully constructed song.

The Used – Blue And Yellow Lyrics 13 years ago
This is the only Used song I know but I'm glad I know it. I think this is how the blue and yellow symbolism works: these are two totally different colors and depending on how you mix them, they can turn out an ugly shade of green or a pretty shade of green. Green could also relate to envy, but I don't know enough about the friendship this song is based on to comment further on that. Anyway, I wanna hear more stuff from these guys now since finally hearing this song.

I still don't see how this whole song addresses sexuality. I feel like it's more a tying of lose ends as the album closes. 30 Seconds to Mars – 100 Suns Lyrics 13 years ago
I love how "This is War" becomes "100 Suns" on the album. There's a lost art to album making where every song has a meaning of it own but all the songs relate to one another in some way. Every song is connected to the song before it. Pink Floyd, Sigur Ros, Nine Inch Nails, all bands that 30 Seconds to Mars have referenced as influences have done it and it's so cool to see 30 Seconds to Mars bring it back. As for the meaning, I don't think it's really meant to be taken seriously. I think what he means to say is at the end of the day, all that matters is what's within us, not what surrounds us in the outside world.

I didn't like this song at first, but man, after a few listens I really like it. I don't think the video is that great, and really seems to stick a story on the song that doesn't quite fit. Just a case of bad use of imagery. I feel like the song is about a dude who only cared about himself and never had a reason to love anyone else, until this girl walks into his life. He wants to dedicate himself to her, but can only give her "half of his heart" cuz he's not quite ready to change his old ways
