my interpretation of it is that its about putting all your trust, time, energy, devotion, and affection into someone who you ultimately realize only takes and never gives anything back, and that ultimately that person isn't worth a damn. "Serpentine regime ordered by response sort of fell this population". now to me this means women (LoL), but the "serpentine regime" are those who'd use others for their own gain to "fell this population", or make people harder to trust in life by proxy. the, "I'm sorry, we've never met, my name is driftwood. Thanks friend, good looking, I'll never see you again" is the other individual who simply uses others for their own benefit prior to abandoning them. Like a person who saves himself from drowning by clutching onto a piece of nearby driftwood, only to throw it away once that person reaches safety or something better to latch onto. The chorus itself could be a metaphor for a one sided friendship/relationshit, "you'd have only held the cup while I poured", meaning that you would only have let me put more and more of myself into you, while you gave absolutely nothing back. Theres plenty more that I could use in the lyrics to affirm my point, but thats the gist of what it means to me. most of the fun in Aesop's lyrics is deciphering what they mean, and analyzing what you come up with. reading between the lines is the best way to go about his stuff. next to nothing is ever direct, and everything is conveyed through stream of consciousness. |

christ! why does EVERY song that halfway mentions affection, closeness, or emotion of any sort HAVE to be some lame ass [LoVe] song about a guy getting sprung over some slut? it could very well be about anyone, guy or girl who Chino is close to. "i like you when you take your face off" is him talking about how he admires and respects the person for who they really are personally rather than the face they wear in front of others. you could take the "you could die if you do this alone" as a means of him saying he/she should never feel alone or isolated from his/her close friends. that even in the bleakest of circumstances he/she has people to rely on. I watch you taste it "I see your face, And I know I’m alive. You’re shooting stars. From the barrel of your eyes. And It drives me crazy, just drives me wild". could mean anything from him saying he appreciates the lust for life someone has, how their personality and desire to live inspires him to do the same, and how that person makes him impassioned at the fact he's alive. WHERE exactly is he writing "oh baby girl, you're my one and only, i [LoVe] you so much, blah blah something that ryhmes with heart and apart. some of you guys REALLY need to quit wading on the surface and trying to equate EVERY song you hear as some lame ass romance tune. there are far more targets and topics in the world than hearts, Cupid, and "relationshits"(no typo) people. |

| i think its about a guy and his obsession with a girl who is far too into herself and the whole "night life/rock star" scene. "daughter to the pop veneer", shes a product of the whole fame/fortune look (the look being outwardly pleasing but inwardly thin or shallow). he is saying that while she shines outwardly (like a new mint quarter), shes seedy as all hell on the inside. then he goes into his own conflict on how though he knows how shitty she is, and how much he wants to get away and wash himself clean of her and her drama (i want to give myself to water), he's still attracted to her and what she excites in him (speeding to the rupture line). and then of course theres my favorite line "i dream that she aims to be the bloom upon my misery), which basically just reaffirms that he is aware of how his infatuation with her will ultimately bring about his own ruin and misery. | |

i completely disagree with that one. its about someone who suffers from either a drug addiction or a terminal disease (hence all the references to chemicals, needles,poison, etc) and the guy is narrating his battle between indifference to his own situation, and how that indifference affects those he cares about. now there MAY be a girl whom he is talking about in particular, since theres the stanza or two talking about "her picture", but honestly that could be anyone (mother, grandmother, aunt, a best friend, etc). i hate that people ALWAYS try to equate lyrics that aren't obvious to some lame ass [LoVe] story, or about "a guy trying to impress/court/get back/ or mourn some female. i mean there are more topics in the world to talk about than relationshits people. LoL |
