the song is about reaching a higher consciousness. over thinking and over analyzing seperates the body from the mind.. ego is the root of all thought. when you take away thought you are left with the energy inside of you and your spirit, which should guide you through life and put you on your pre-existing path.
when it starts off maynard is talking about his deep state of depression and the hole of darkness he is trapped in. he is about to accept his pitiful state and do what he can in his state of blackness. at the bottom he realizes that he cant live the rest of his days like he is, then he is shown a secret which is the light (his spirit) or chakras, and is instatly connected to the universe and everyone else when he crusifies his ego and ultimately let's go (kind of like the message in "the grudge") |

idk if a agree on the part about him wrecking his own life, i look at it more like..the girl he loved wanted out of the relationship so she goes and finds a quick fix to try and get over him while he has no one and he doesnt choose to do it like that but instead stands strong and waits it out. like a man of stone |
