Ramones – I Wanna Be Sedated Lyrics

Also, when I was a junior in high school, my US History teacher made us write songs about a particular period of history and perform them in front of the class, so we just wrote different words to this one. My buddy played it on guitar and I sang it by myself because my brother is an idiot. It was pretty damn ridiculous, but also pretty sweet. |

You are illiterate. Please read a book, or at the very least, realize that typing like you are retarded is not cool. |

:) This is my favorite song off Rocket to Russia. I used to listen to this all the time when I was in 9th grade...which was when I got this album on vinyl as a 15th birthday present from my roommate's boyfriend. Rad! |

Yeah I definitely read somewhere that this was about a humidifier exploding in DeeDee's face. Or at least I think it was DeeDee. |

Back when Joey was still alive, the Independents did a live cover of this song, and Joey sang it. I wasn't there cause it was a long ass time ago, but they gave me the CD with that song on it...better than the original! It was right before Joey died. It was amazing. |

The Weakerthans – One Great City! Lyrics

The line "a thousand sharpened elbows in the underground" makes me laugh because it always reminds me of being at a show and sustaining injuries from other people's elbows. I know that isn't what it's referring to...just sayin'. |

I couldn't tell you exactly about it, but this is the saddest song I've ever heard in my life. And the last line "I wait in 4/4 time, count yellow highway lines that you're relying on to lead you home" is chilling. |

John K. Samson – Greenest Eyes Lyrics

John K. Samson, you write beautiful words.
"Waking up each morning with confusion in my eyes
Wind is biting through to wave hello
See in my reflection an exterior of lies
Hope this shaky feeling doesn't show"
That's absolutely gorgeous. |

Oh John K. Samson, I love you so much, and you are the cutest Canadian I've ever met. And only few could write songs this beautiful.
And this is one of my favorites. |

The Weakerthans – A New Name For Everything Lyrics

God, I saw them on Wednesday, and when I met John after the show, I couldn't even talk to him, I just like...giggled and froze up and had my brother take a picture of us. I really wanted to talk to him about how much his lyrics have meant to me, and tell him that he writes some of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard...but no. Just turned into a giggling little girl. DAMMIT. |

Darkest Hour – Paradise Lyrics

Basically, it's about the monotony of being stuck in a rut, and the general self-indulgence of it all, like sitting around feeling sorry for yourself, instead of doing something about it. You can't just magically come out of it, you have to fight your way out. Stop wasting time and make your life worth living before it's too late. |

Darkest Hour – Accesible Losses Lyrics

That quiet instrumental adds SO much to this song, especially with that building intensity, starting with the drum beats in the instrumental, and then the guitars speeding up, with that heavy drumming in the back and then finally breaking out back into vocals. MY GOD. Have you ever seen them play this live? You have not lived until you've experienced it, it's unreal. The energy that comes with this song is so intense, it's not even fair. |

Darkest Hour – Sound the Surrender Lyrics

Oh man oh man, if I had a dollar for every time I've broken down to this song, I'd have gas money all week long. Something about this song hits me so hard, and the solo makes me think of anxiety and nervous breakdowns, where everything is crazy and racing, and you can't slow it down. |

Darkest Hour – The Saddist Nation Lyrics

The sound of this song, and all the anger and contempt within it is just mind-bogglingly intense. The first time I heard this song I thought my head might explode.
The second time I saw them live, John Henry jumped off stage where the song breaks down and was singing on the floor near me, while swinging a giant beach umbrella.
Awesome. |

Darkest Hour – These Fevered Times Lyrics

I think this line is so clever:
You know the feeling when down feels up to its old tricks again? It's so misleading.
This song is overall just, HEAVY. Those lyrics, that's heavy. That's what I love about John Henry's lyrics, he knows how to put intensity and heart into everything, so much so that I can hardly handle it sometimes. |

Darkest Hour – Tranquil Lyrics
|
This song-the entire album-is a total work of art. Basically, it's like John Henry says, this album is about making life worth living, and deals with all these different emotions in the process. Tranquil is just bringing it to a close, the rebirth...it's stated in the first line 'this decaying flesh is coming back to life,' who he was has died, and he is now a new person.
The long instrumental outro of the the song is absolutely brilliant, as is the entire song itself. I love that the song brings the album to a close perfectly, and how it fades out in the same manner that "With a Thousand Words to Say But One" faded in.
The entire album is structured perfectly, and there's so much emotion (without being whiny cut-your-wrists sort of thing) that it's like someone punched you in the chest at some points throughout this album. The emotion in some of the songs hits me so hard it's not even fair.
Favorite album of all time, I'm not kidding.
I love John Henry
(I can say that totally guilt free and honestly, because my boyfriend has the same name :D) |

IndependentlyHappy, this was originally by The Dead Boys, not the Ramones. The two sound NOTHING alike, I don't understand how you could get them mixed up, that's just silly. |
