Bob Dylan – Percy's Song Lyrics 8 years ago
Playing at Carnegie Hall 26th of October 1963 Bob Dylan told the audience "Here's a song I wrote. It's about a friend of mine. It's called Percy's Song. I took the tune from a song that a folk singer by the name of Paul Clayton sings, called 'The Wind and the Rain'."
Bob Dylan has a 7:29 minute cut of this song on John Birch Society Blues.

Bob Dylan – Percy's Song Lyrics 8 years ago
Sad that this song is not very well known. Sad song about a driver who had a wreak driving in "The Wind and the Rain". Not as another posted about driving drunk, must not have ever listened to the words or know the true story behind it.
A song about a cruel judge who sentenced a man to 99 years to Joliet Prison for an accident caused by the weather.
I purchased this album, and still have it, for other of Bob Dylan's hits that were playing on the radio, but this song that I never heard before, like so many I've purchased, ended up being my favorite.
It's so awesome that so many great musicians bring us awareness about such matters we might not of ever heard of.

Emmylou Harris – I Don't Have To Crawl Lyrics 10 years ago
This is so wrong what I am seeing above!
Rodney wrote it, his 1st wife Roseanne Cash sang it (among others later), & what is up above is so not how it was sang by either of them!
This is one heck of a song I heard live (actually got to meet them & the band) live before 'King's Record Shop' was released. Stewart Smith did a 13 minute guitar lick during this song that was amazing!

Hopefully whoever put this up will fix it because 80% is missing & what's here does not come close to telling the STORY of what this song is about.
For some reason it didn't show up under Rodney's song list & Roseanne's wouldn't come up when I just tried to share these lyrics to a friend. I'm gonna try to make sure they are there next time I long onto my laptop.

This song came out soon after I moved to Texas. I never had heard of Chris Area but my son and I would play all the songs on jukeboxes that had to do with Texas, lol, and there's a lot.
I purchased the CD just for the Texas song, which didn't only turn out to be a awesome song, the whole CD is excellent! I purchased a few more albums of his but non of them came close to this one.

The Cowboy Junkies – One Lyrics 12 years ago
Is it getting better?
Or do you feel the same?
Will it make it easier on you now?
You got someone to blame
You say...

One love
One life
When it's one need
In the night

One love
We get to share it
Leaves you baby if you
Don't care for it

Did I disappoint you?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without?
Well it's...

Too late
Tonight
To drag the past out into the light

We're one, but we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other
One...

Have you come here for forgiveness?
Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head?

Did I ask too much?
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it's all I got

We're one
But we're not the same
Will we
Hurt each other
Then we do it again

You say
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law

You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
To what you got
When all you got is hurt

One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should

One life
With each other
Sisters
Brothers

One life
But we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other

One... life

One

Rodney Crowell – Oh King Richard Lyrics 13 years ago
~
I want to add that I did my best to write down the lyrics above way back in 1986, and even went over them again today a few times with someone else here checking once again... I was very surprised it had not been added.

This song still gives me chills every time I hear it "and God only knows how you feel", no one can know that feeling, only the King!!! He never let me down, I grew up watching him & even Marty Robbins back then ; ) There is a documentary on Marty too ; )

I am old enough to appreciate what this song is about. Car Racing started in the USA by boot Legers, moonshine runners. There is an excellent documentary on Junior Johnson.

I heard Kyle Petty sing this song one time & it broke my heart as this is Rodney Crowell's song.
A song Rodney wrote & sung from his & heart & soul about his hero Richard Petty... no one will ever sing this song as Rodney, not even King Richard's son...sorry Kyle.

Also from Wiki: Petty is a second generation driver. His father, Lee Petty, won the first Daytona 500 in 1959 and was also a 3 time NASCAR champion.

This ballad actually tells a history... Thank you Rodney!!! And thank you King Richard!!!

"The King", as he is nicknamed, is most well-known for winning the NASCAR Championship seven times (Dale Earnhardt is the only other driver to accomplish this feat), winning a record 200 races during his career, winning the Daytona 500 a record seven times, and winning a record 27 races (ten of them consecutively) in the 1967 season alone. (A 1972 rule change eliminated races under 250 miles (400 km) in length, reducing the schedule to 30 [now 36] races.) Petty is widely considered one of the greatest NASCAR drivers of all time. He also collected a record number of poles (127) and over 700 top-ten finishes in his 1,185 starts, including 513 consecutive starts from 1971—1989.

Ben Folds Five – Narcolepsy Lyrics 13 years ago
~
This song is about NARCOLEPSY, that's why the title of the song is NARCOLEPSY.
Ben can't explain any simpler than titling it 'Narcolepsy'.

Most that left comments sadly didn't/don't have a clue or bothered in the slightest to learn what Narcolepsy is!!!
It is nothing to laugh at unless you are cruel : (

Research and knowledge are good things and so easily obtained now days with the internet at our fingertips.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NARCOLEPSY is a neurological chronic sleep disorder that causes:
Loss of muscle function, automatic behavior... meaning that a person continues to function such as talking, putting things away, ect... during sleep episodes, but awakens with no memory of performing such activities.
They suffer from insomnia for extended periods of time.
One symptom of narcolepsy is especially the excessive daytime sleepiness and cataplexy, often become severe enough to cause serious problems in a person's social, personal, and professional life.
Normally, when an individual is awake, brain waves show a regular rhythm.
When a person first falls asleep, the brain waves become slower and less regular.
This sleep state is called non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep.
After about an hour and a half of NREM sleep, the brain waves begin to show a more active pattern again.
This sleep state, called REM sleep (rapid eye movement sleep), is when most remembered dreaming occurs. Associated with the EEG-observed waves during REM sleep, muscle atonia is present (called REM atonia).
In narcolepsy, the order and length of NREM and REM sleep periods are disturbed, with REM sleep occurring at sleep onset instead of after a period of NREM sleep.
Thus, narcolepsy is a disorder in which REM sleep appears at an abnormal time.
Also, some of the aspects of REM sleep that normally occur only during sleep–lack of muscular control, sleep paralysis, and vivid dreams–occur at other times in people with narcolepsy.
For example, the lack of muscular control can occur during wakefulness in a cataplexy episode; it is said that there is intrusion of REM atonia during wakefulness.
Sleep paralysis and vivid dreams can occur while falling asleep or waking up.
Simply put, the brain does not pass through the normal stages of dozing and deep sleep but goes directly into (and out of) rapid eye movement (REM) sleep.
This has several consequences... night time sleep does not include as much deep sleep, so the brain tries to "catch up" during the day, hence EDS.
People with narcolepsy may visibly fall asleep at unpredicted moments (such motions as head bobbing are common).
People with narcolepsy fall quickly into what appears to be very deep sleep, and they wake up suddenly and can be disoriented and dizzy when they do.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

When I seen 32 comments on this song I actually thought they would be from people who lived with narcolepsy or knew someone with it... but nope (but I haven't read p.2 yet).

Only a few understood, figured out that a song titled 'Narcolepsy' is a song about about NARCOLEPSY... A terrible neurological chronic sleep disorder that causes those who have it a lot of suffering : (

My, once upon on a time, sweetheart from 27 years ago lives with narcolepsy.
Ben's song (thank you Ben) describes a bit about how daily life is living with it : (

27 years ago we had a bad wreak, he fell asleep at the wheel, he said he didn't feel tired or he would have pulled over, we had even just past a rest area a few miles back, and we were only going 36 miles.

I ALWAYS believed him. I NEVER once blamed him but he wouldn't/couldn't stop blaming himself. I didn't know how to help him to stop blaming, doubting himself.
It broke us up : ) but we have ALWAYS remained Friends (forever).

Research on narcolepsy explains that it starts appearing in late teen and early adulthood but sadly it takes an average of 15 years before the correct diagnose is made : (

My sweetheart was 21 when the wreak happened. It/narcolepsy changed our lives forever.

He LIVES/SUFFERS with all that is narcolepsy every single day of his life.

Now, at least he should KNOW that the jeep wreak was NOT his fault, yet sadly I feel like he still might be blaming himself, I don't know, he still won't talk about the wreak 27 years later.

Dolly Parton – Coat of Many Colors Lyrics 13 years ago
~
I love this song dearly!!!
I listened to Dolly as a Child and actually sang this song a lot while making my son all his homemade shirts, carefully making sure each horseshoe snap was the right side up and put the heart shaped patches on his jeans.
One would never know the sacrifices made for him how he acts now as a 'man'. If one didn't know any better they'd think he was born with a gold spoon in his mouth.
I don't understand why one can not be proud of all the "labor of love" than the make believe of pretending you came from the 'upper crust'.

Like Dolly sings so beautifully "I couldn't understand it", now I can't understand it.

To bad, so sad that some take for granted all the love given in those every stitches that some never even had the chance to receive.

The Cowboy Junkies – The water is wide Lyrics 16 years ago
This is from a 1600's Scottish Ballad:

Waly, Waly, gin Love be bonny
O Waly, waly, (a lament - "woe is me") up the bank,
And waly, waly, doun the brae (hill),
And waly, waly, yon burn-side (riverside),
Where I and my Love wont to gae (go)!
I lean'd my back unto an aik (oak),
I thocht it was a trustie tree;
But first it bow'd and syne (soon) it brak (broke)—
Sae my true love did lichtlie (lightly) me.
O waly, waly, gin love be bonnie (beautiful),
A little time while it is new!
But when 'tis auld (old) it waxeth cauld (cold),
And fades awa' like morning dew.
O wherefore should I busk my heid (adorn my head),
Or wherefore should I kame (comb) my hair?
For my true Love has me forsook,
And says he'll never lo'e me mair (more).
Now Arthur's Seat
Sall (shall) be my bed (burial place),
The sheets sall ne'er be 'filed by me;
Saint Anton's well sall be my drink;
Since my true Love has forsaken me.
Marti'mas wind, when wilt thou blaw (blow),
And shake the green leaves aff the tree?
O gentle Death, when wilt thou come?
For of my life I am wearìe.
'Tis not the frost, that freezes fell,
Nor blawing snaw's (snow) inclemencie,
'Tis not sic cauld (such cold) that makes me cry;
But my Love's heart grown cauld to me.
When we cam in by Glasgow toun,
We were a comely sicht (sight)to see;
My Love was clad in the black velvèt,
And I mysel in cramasie (crimson).
But had I wist (known), before I kist (a coffin = died),
That love had been sae ill to win,
I had lock'd my heart in a case o' gowd (gold),
And pinn'd it wi' a siller (silver) pin.
And O! if my young babe were born,:
And set upon the nurse's knee;
And I mysel were dead and gane,
And the green grass growing over me!

Folk Song:
The water is wide, I cannot get o'er
And neither have I wings to fly.
Give me a boat, that will carry two,
And both shall row, my love and I.

A-down in the meadows the other day
A-gath'ring flow'rs along the way
A-gath'ring flowers, both red and blue,
I little thought what love can do.

I lean'd my back up against some oak,
Thinking that he was a trusty tree.
But first he bended and then he broke,
And so did my false love to me.

A ship there is, and she sails the sea,
She's loaded deep as deep can be,
But not so deep as the love I'm in;
I know not if I sink or swim.

O love is handsome and love is fine,
And love's a jewel when it is new;
But when it is old, it groweth cold,
And fades away like morning dew.

Melissa Etheridge – Silent Legacy Lyrics 16 years ago
Hummm, my last entry does not make much sense, maybe it was the Southern Comfort.

I raised a Son, a most precious gift. I knew I was the artist of this perfectly clean canvas. I was the one to choose what went on this canvas.

I choose NOT to raise my Son in fear of this most pathetic, selfish, evil, jealous god. I taught him every and all religions so he could make his own knowledgeable desision.

This song came out when my Son came of age. In fact we were at the last concert of the 'Yes, I am" tour in Houston, TX.

Melissa is a very wise women and a excellent song writer.
