I actually feel that the singer DOES she (depending on whether we are thinking of Split Enz or Missy Higgins) loves her partner. The line "I once lived for the future, everyday was one day closer, greener on the other side, this I believe before I met you" implies that before she met her partner, she was dissatisfied with her present and used to always be waiting around for something better to come along in her future.
However, upon discovering the love between her and her partner, her present suddenly makes more sense and is more clear- she knows "how and when" and "where and why". She has purpose in her life, and she no longer yearns for the other side which used to seem to have 'greener grass'.
I do not really interpret the first verse as an indication that she has been unfaithful- rather, it might be that she is simply admitting that she hasn't been a perfect partner, and hasn't been able to promise her partner that she will be with them forever. This isn't because she doesn't love her partner, but is because she is an honest person "but I've got no secrets that I battle in my sleep", and she doesn't want to make promises that "can't keep". All she CAN guarantee is that she does love her partner, and that the love she has for her partner is true and very real in this present day and time. She cannot promise anything more than that because the future is largely unpredictable and beyond her control.
I read this song in this way because my boyfriend and I seem to be approaching a fork in the road, and our futures are very uncertain. I have no doubt that he loves me, but it would be wrong for him to promise me that we'll be together forever because that isn't a promise for him to make. We're young, and anything can happen in our futures. |

just about the despair you feel when a relationship breaks/is breaking down. in this case it sounds like someone wants to end a relationship he's not ready to come out of. he's desperate to not be pushed away from the person and will do anything to "make amends". the term "half mast" refers to the practise of lowering a flag when mourning over the dead... and that's how his heart feels... it's in mourning and is dying. |

i love this song. to me, it's all about the rawness of life, the spontaneity of it, but also the beauty of it. In an age where everyone is talking about global warming, when everyone is blaming themselves for destroying this world, it's refreshing to have an optimistic song assuring us that things will be alright and wonderful :) |

so beautiful... to feel so wonderfully towards someone like this is so rare... which is why this song is so precious. When I listen to it, it reminds me of the birth of children. Just the innocence of the child seems to be so special. It is ordinary because people give birth all the time, yet it is extraordinary at the same time. Birth tends to represent hope, and hence lets us trust again....
but I totally agree with viosanne for Darren is very close with his sister and he did go through a period of time when he was very unhappy. This song is absolutely breathtaking. |

This song is about a man who is cheating on his wife. He convinces himself that he is just telling a 'white lie' and that it is not hurting anyone. He lies to the woman(or maybe man) he is having an affair with, and lies to his wife that he would "never wreck our home". As he tells one lie, he must tell another to cover that lie up, so on so forth. The line: "I'll be home soon" is what he says to his wife... the image in my head is that he has just slept with the person he's having an affair with and his wife calls him asking "where are you." and this line is his reply.
Clever, catchy song. :) |

pretty straightforward. Here he is, broken and shattered after coming to the end of a relationship, and as a result his whole world changes becomes grey, hence: "How suddenly the whole world can change overnight". He wants to go back to the past and undo his wrongs "wish I had the option to rewind".
He then questions himself whether experience love was worth feeling the way he does now.

I love this song. It's really catchy. Temposhark is a pretty cool band.
I think this song is about realising how beautiful life is and celebrating this fact. The repetition of "this black hole" is.. (i think) the view of the world through his eyes.
But then sometimes I think it's about him being on drugs and everything becomes beautiful and exciting. lol but i guess that's highly unlikely. |

This song is one of Darren Haye's favourite songs (that's he's written) and he is obviously talking about God/Jesus ... but I'm not so sure about the true meaning. Is it making fun of God? Or is it just basically imagining what it'd be like to meet God?

Obviously, it is a very angry song about backstabbing and realising how heartless that person can be. I actually thought it was directed at Daniel Jones during the Savage Garden break up, though this song can apply to many different situations.

I have wanted to comment on this song for a long time, but I couldn't find the right words to justify how much I love this song. It's clever, humorous, raw... I'm not even going to try and define it because Gabigs did a perfect job on that. All I can say is that this song is very genuine and pure, just like a lot of his other songs on The Tension and the Spark. |

I'm not really sure about what this song means but I think it means that you can either let people just take your dreams away and looking in the past (won't undo their past by walking and talking backwards) and that you should just look towards the future and take the chances that are given to you.
I guess that would make sence if he wrote this song whilst he thought he might have HIV because it's kinda a song that tells you to value life and keep living... |

The most beautiful song ever.
I think it's just all about feeling lost.. and depressed and confused, which is why she keeps saying 'oh well', like she's too weak to find out, and can't be bothered to do anything.
The song portrays a sense of insecurity.
It mightn't even mean anything, but the music is amazingly beautiful.
When I listen to it, I just feel like staying at home, looking out a window on a rainy day and playing the piano. =] |
