Anthony Newley – The People Tree [Ain't It Funny album version] Lyrics | 8 years ago |
It says these lyrics were "submitted by ben_wren", but these aren't the lyrics I submitted! I think the correct lyrics (as on the Ain't It Funny album) are: Wouldn't it be nice to make a people tree The likes of you, the likes of me We can do it very easily; we barely even have to try Let a little time go by and pretty soon before we know it... Suddenly the two of us are one, two, three And there we see our people tree Soon the score is up to four or more as other little branches grow That's the way it's meant to go and there's no way I know to slow it What a source of mutual satisfaction When we see the tree bear fruit Evidence beyond dispute of our mutual attraction Nothing is as lovely as a people tree I think that we would all agree: Of the miracles that god created, rated number one would have to be the people tree What a source of mutual satisfaction When we see the tree bear fruit Evidence beyond dispute of our mutual attraction Nothing is as lovely as a people tree I think that we would all agree: Of the miracles that god created, rated number one would have to be the people tree |

It says these lyrics were "submitted by ben_wren", but these aren't the lyrics I submitted! I think the correct lyrics (as on the Ain't It Funny album) are: The world is made of music Never ending symphonies of sound surround us Miracles of melody abound around us too It's a musical world Such a beautiful world Listen to the rhythm of the storm in summer Hear the mellow melody when church bells chime Isn't that as magical as once upon a time It's a musical world Such a beautiful world Ding dong, sing a song of spring and summer Spring song, summer song and entre nous I love music and I know that you do too It's a musical world Such a beautiful world The world's a maze of music Everything contributes to the rare concerto Elephants and butterflies have their concerto too It's a musical world Such a beautiful world Listen to the music of a lonely seashore Hear the sad cacophony of seagulls' songs Nature has an orchestra where every sound belongs It's a musical world Such a beautiful world Ding dong, sing a song of spring and summer Spring song, summer song and entre nous I love music and I know that you do too It's a musical world Such a beautiful world Ding dong, sing a song of spring and summer Spring song, summer song and entre nous I love music and I know that you do too It's a musical world I love music and I know that you do too It's a musical world |
The Divine Comedy – A Lady of a Certain Age Lyrics | 9 years ago |
@[xaul:3023] I don't think Neil Hannon is as judgemental about this character as you are. I think she's certainly a tragic character, yes, but I don't think Neil portrays her as villainous, but certainly not as virtuous either. One can make their own interpretation of the character, but I don't think her wickedness is implied in the song. My own feeling is that she was part of a culture in which a lot of the things Neil describes were common, and while they may seem objectionable to those outside of high society, it may just have been "how things were done" within. She is certainly not free from selfishness, but she learned from the society she kept, and just went along with it, without questioning, without a clear motivation in life, and without trying to improve herself or find a greater meaning... and ended up a lonely woman. |

I submitted these lyrics - having simply transcribed them by listening... Does anyone know if I got them right?! Has anyone got a more authoritative source?! In other news, what an incredible song, eh? |
