"I fucking love this song. Does anyone know what the Philips Corporation reference is about?"
I think it's a reference to Philip Morris, the cigarette manufacturer. |

"Slipped the surly bonds" is from a poem called "High Flight" by John Gillespie Magee, Jr. - it's a reference to death.
"Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;"
President Reagan later used the line in his speech following the Challenger disaster. |

TMBG is pretty literal in their songs, so I don't think there is some sort of deeper meaning to this, however the chorus does make a pretty good metaphor for life... |

FYI: Holidays and other special days are often marked on calendars in red, hence the term "red letter day." It's just any sort of memorable or special day, not necessarily a happy one. |

Brand New – Logan to Government Center Lyrics

So it seems to be about a long distance relationship...maybe they met one summer and she lives in Boston and he lives on Long Island. His phone bills are stacked up from calls he made to her, but she doesn't feel the same way about him. The title probably means that he flies (or wants to fly) up to Boston to see her and takes the T from Logan to her stop, Government Center.
theboohi - I agree about that part...it's awesome. |

Pat Mcgee Band – Shine Lyrics

To me this song reminds me of a friend that died recently. When she passed, of my Christian (Catholic, maybe?) friends told me that in their religion you could tell God that you were not ready to pass, and he would not take your life. The part about choosing ("you chose to shine") tells me that she was ready to spend her eternity elsewhere, and she's looking down on me.
This song always makes me think... |

Dashboard Confessional – Ender Will Save Us All Lyrics

I saw him live and he added some "secret verses" that I assume are from another song, because there were people singing along to them. Anyone know which song that is? He says something about "we'll see we've done something wrong" or "something good" or something like that. |
