Jill Sobule – Supermodel Lyrics

To everyone who has said this song is mean...fuck yeah it is. It's also hilarious and awesome. It's especially funny that anyone with anorexia likes this song because it's so openly mocking you. |

This isn't Randy Newman. It's not a character. It's not ironic. It's not pointed or satirircal. Axl Rose is just a shitty lyricist and a racist homophobe. |

"[T]he LAST THING HE SAW was the flashing red light." It was the last thing he saw. He's dead.
It's a great song. |

They Might Be Giants – Pencil Rain Lyrics

"Finale of Seem" is a reference to Wallace Stevens' poem "The Emperor of Ice-Cream." The line in the poem is "Let be be finale of seem," that is, if something seems a certain way, let yourself conclude that it is that way. |

OutKast – Ms. Jackson Lyrics

The most genius part of this song is the guitar playing Wagner's Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin {"Here Comes the Bride") at the end. I think you miss some of the meaning of the song if you miss that: they're getting married. |

Everclear – I Will Buy You A New Life Lyrics

That car line is really nothing compared to:
Yeah I guess I'm doing okay
I moved in with the strangest guy
Can you believe he actually thinks that I am really alive?
which I consider to be probably the worst lyric in recorded music. He wastes so many syllables to fit the meter and get to...alive? What? That sentence doesn't make sense, and he went so out of his way to make it! |

Talking Heads – Heaven Lyrics

In the Stop Making Sense commentary, Byrne says this song is about a gay bar called "Heaven" somewhere out west. (I forget where, watch the commentary if you really want to know.) Thus, a bar where homosexuals can live normally and not be ridiculed or oppressed (i.e. where "nothing ever happens") is truly "so exciting...this much fun." |

the remaining members of Mother Love Bone, after losing their lead singer (Andrew Wood i think his name was) collaberated with some members of Soundgarden and pulled Eddie Vedder out of nowhere to do backup vocals for a one-time project tribute to Wood |

Nickelback – How You Remind Me Lyrics

I'm ashamed of myself for not completely hating this song from the start. These guys are another "rock" (in quotes because it's really much more like pop) band in the vein of Creed, Puddle of Mudd, POD, Staind, and Lifehouse. There is also a HUGE mistake Nickelback made when writing the lyrics; any idiot could've told them that you shouldn't put "it's" and "not" into the same syllable, they end up saying "SNOT." If you like the sound bands like Nickelback abuse, you should really try bands who created the sound and made actual music with it (not to mention meaningful lyrics) - Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains. |
