Don't get me wrong, I love this song, and I don't care for the Michelle Branch version, but I don't think you can say Yellowcard's was better than hers. She wrote the song, therefore she done it the way it was supposed to be. Just a thought. Anyways, great cover and punk goes pop ROCKS! |

ok im annoyed. I just wrote out my whole suicide theory and it didnt work. Basically i said the chorus is saying that the thing with the whitest lace of light could be his guardian angel, or his conscious maybe? And anyways his gaurdian angel hasnt been doing its job and he wants to kill himself. The first verse to me is saying that tonight he wants to commit suicide, maybe he's gonna drown himself? He's the art that does drown. Then in the second verse i think he's thinking about being buried. He can hear the insects, they aren't happy, so he's like I'll tell them god said hi, if there is such a thing as god. lol, i find it very hard to explain my thoughts. This writing doesnt make half as much sense as what I'm thinking. |

Ok, yes. After concentrating on it a little I do think it's about suicide. I find it hard to explain my thoughts but I"ll do the best I can. I think the thing that has the whitest lace of light could be his guardian angel, and what he's saying in the chorus basically means that his angel isn't doing its job and he believes he just belongs in the afterlife now.
"I'll lay me down tonight, Much further down, Swim in the calm tonight, This art does drown" - This definitely says suicide to me, just think about it. I think the firs tpart is self explanatory. He's the art swimming in the calm (drowning himself).
"All insects sing tonight, The coldest sound, I'd send God's grace tonight, Could it be found?" I'm thinking maybe he's thinking about being buried underground now and he can hear the insects, they're not happy so hes like ok, i'll send god's salutations, if there is such a thing as god, lol, sorry if this makes no sense. Sorry if this is long I just have a million thoughts running through my head right now. |

I'll take a stab at the chorus. I also looked at this song and thought death. In the chorus, I think it says "what follows me HAS the whitest lace of light" instead of as. Therefore, I figure it might be a ghost or an angel or something, I'm thinking maybe the angel of death? Then "(Will swallow whole) just begs to be imbrued?" again my theory on the angel of death, taking away someone who is dying. "What follows has lead me to this place" again, the angel of death, he has died, the angel has taken him away to heaven or wherever. "where I belong, with all erased" he belongs in heaven now and everything he has done on earth no long matters.
I'm also thinking another theory, kinda along the same lines. I'm thinking maybe this song could be about suicide. |
