Primus – Mr. Krinkle Lyrics 16 years ago
Wow, people have been at this one for a while and still no dice. This one is like low-hanging fruit. So, this IS about a gripe session between Les and someone else, not sure if its the Faith no More guy though.
The first verse speaks to priorities in American life and the fact that many Americans would cry when their sports team moves away.
This is a direct tie-in to the second verse about what people would not cry over: the environment. Now, I don't think that Les is some tree-hugging green-lover, but he does enjoy fishing (hence songs like 'The Old Diamondback Sturgeon') so it sucks for him to see all of the over-fishing that goes on.
The third verse is just a gripe about advertising and 'the next big thing.' Society puts a lot of time into trying to market things as bigger and better; from lo-cal food to new musical genres.
In a nutshell people are out there gill-netting, listening to hometown-heavy new-wave low calorie dry and lamenting about their departed football team while Les just sits on his couch and watches the world go insane.

The Hold Steady – Hot Soft Light Lyrics 16 years ago
Northtown Mall, Lyndale Ave, Lake St... The second best thing about this song (besides the melodic aspects) is all of the Twin Cities references.

The Decemberists – The Engine Driver Lyrics 16 years ago
This one is so easy its cheesy. So Meloy fancies writing obtuse lyrics about people with strange professions, i.e. a bagman, a barrow boy, a mariner, a rebel soldier, etc. This song is an exploration of all of these characters that live inside of his lyrics (and his head) wanting to be "let go" and live lives of their own. He is, of course, the "writer of fictions" who is "all that [they] have home" and he is trying to excise them by writing "pages upon pages." However, I don't think thats working out for him.
Either way, great song, both lyrically and melodically. And you have to love the segue into "On the Bus Mall."

Shout Out Louds – Very Loud Lyrics 17 years ago
Couple of lyric changes from the first verse:

"And I wanna build
Buildings high for you.
But the cost,
My God, the cost, I can't afford you.
But I always choose another way,
And this is why this love can't stay."

Anyway, great song nonetheless.

Third Eye Blind – Tattoo of the Sun Lyrics 21 years ago
Unlike myself, I will chuck all meaning aside (although I do agree with Chaos on the meaning) and say that this song just does it for me. Reminiscent of the much hated/loved song SCL (not Salt Lake City), there are four chords that make me cry as well. Along with the end of "God Of Wine," the last words of Tattoo of the Sun regarding the lines about "everyting left to say and nothing left to be said" is all it takes to send me into that part of the consciousness that calls for tears.

Third Eye Blind – Self Righteous Lyrics 21 years ago
Although some might think that this song is just some kind of half-assed 3EB/Moldy Peaches hybrid it is much more than that. At first, I didn't like this song, it was too alien. However, after multiple listenings I realized the point of this song. Whether it is critics or just people in general, everyone thinks they are so self-rightous (especially Christians). The line that states "Where have all you sinners gone," particularily hits home due to the fact that I realize no one is willing to admit they are wrong or even misguided. It truly is a sad world we live in...

Third Eye Blind – Danger Lyrics 21 years ago
While browsing for reviews and such, I found that the majority of people hate this song. I thought that maybe I too would hate this song so I listened to it multiple times. Instead of cultivating a hatred, I found that I liked this song. Then I decided to read into it and that that would be pertinent to a lyrics analysis page such as this. As a student of the U of Minnesota and an avid fan and participator of the hockey riots, it didn't take me long to empathize with this song. Stephan's bee-yatch is obsessed with a girl that is into getting into danger; wether it is gettting into riots or getting her ass banged. While this song is predicated upon the fact of attending riots and ultimately facing danger, the girl of this tune ends up "losing her taste for danger." Like the line in Pulp Fiction, when his woman loses her taste for danger so does the narrrator as indicated in the repeated line of "I used to be a dissident citizen." When all is said and done, the relationship loses its potency when the flair for danger dissapears.

Insane Clown Posse – Bugz on My Nutz Lyrics 21 years ago
I'm am very glad that this song happens to be posted on this site, as this site tends not to post rap music, especially ICP. This song is predicated upon the fact that these clowns have bugs on their nutz. As fallenturtle has previously stated, this is a completely hilarious song. Me and my bros. love to get together and listen to this song. In the end, this song transcends all boundaries because those with and without bugz on their nutz have the potential to enjoy this song. So, please oh please fuck dirty butts...

Read the book "The Age of Spiritual Machines" by Ray Kurzweil. That's what this whole album is conceptualized around. It's a good read anyway...

Third Eye Blind – Good for You Lyrics 22 years ago
This is basically a song about a one sided relationship. He's crazy about her, she gets him through hard nights, but she doesnt feel the same. This leads him to beg the question, is this fucked up set-up "good for you?"

Third Eye Blind – Darwin Lyrics 22 years ago
This song is an expression of disenchantment with life. When you break down human existence to the smallest level, its just multiply and divide. He's wondering, "Is this all for nothing?" Theres also a satiric fantasy of the human race being created by extraterrestrials impregnating apes. The references to skipping records and skipping the long play are about an almighty being (God) who runs the discoteque of life from above. He expresses desires to create something as well, maybe thats the good thing he's lacking.

Third Eye Blind – Camouflage Lyrics 22 years ago
It's about not being yourself, hiding behind masks and being insincere. Thats where all the reference to movies and playing a role comes in. "I'll take in anyone who's taking off their camouflage" is the authors embracement of those who want to be real. "I'll take in anyone whos messing up the sabotage" may be attributed to those who expose others or those who just dont go along with the "sabotage" of being fake. So the moral of the story is: keep it real, y'all (like j-lo).
