@[maisiem:39531] this is exactly what a lot of his songs are about! Isnt it? His mother died from alzhimers too didnt she? This one links to "everybody's changing" without a doubt in my mind I think "Bitter and hardened heart" means trying to stand strong and hold back true feeings, possibly being afraid, closing off "of course I'm okay! Why wouldnt i be?!!" despite crumbling on the inside. I agree woth you on "" waiting for life to start" means his life is currently rather revolved around caring for her and its the main thing on his mind and that holds him back from being able to live his own life. He doesnt mind so much but hes crumbling knowing the reality. And even though he knows shes going and her mind is deteriorating he knows he will always be at her side while she is alive, will never leave his mind when she goes and knows in his heart he will meet her again when his time comes. Saying that.. It makes me wonder if bedshaped "youll knock on my door and up well go, in white light? I dont think so... But what do I know?" is almost self doubt that hell make it but a slight of hope. For he doesn't truly kno what the future holds. |

I think hes actually singing about his mother who passed from alzhimers I believe! Hence "when you forget your name" and "when all faces feel the same" "waiting for life to start" probably because he spent so much time looking after her that he didn't get much of his own time. And this is something that would affect anyones mental health. He doesn't hate spending time with her but to see her go is bringing so much pain that he's struggling to take it. "Bitter and hardened heart" trying to remain strong and stand tall despite true feelings and pain but also shutting ones heart off to the world? Not opening up so much perhaps? Hence "if only i dont bend and break" and i sorta wonder if it also has to do with how he copes the rest of his life. Will he be good enough in his eyes to ever meet her again? To see the light? (heaven?) Think about the lyrics to everybodys changing. Have a look at those then look at this and you might just see what I mean. "such little time" "fading into beautiful light" "trying to stay awake and remember my name but everybodys changing and I don't feel the same" "you say you wander your own life, when i think about it i dont see how you can" - loss of mental capacity and control? |
