Nevermore – Lost Lyrics
|
This song is most certainly about acid. It says it quite clearly "Such a long, strange trip it's been", "Chasing colors to the sun". "The lunatic never falls", basically means that when you're tripping, you feel invincible. You'll do anything without fear. When Warrel wrote, "Why should I come down? from here, I can see forever," he probably meant that he found an escape and excitement in his trips. "So I sing this song for the lost one" could mean that he was aware of people who, indeed, never "came down." Very cool song. Definitely one to play while dropping acid ! ;) |

the lyrics are about Syd Barrett, in fact so was most of The Wall. It's sad to think about really. This song lets you step inside his personal degredation. |

Temple of the Dog – Times Of Trouble Lyrics

this song was meant to maybe make us see the light at the end of the tunnel. the lyrics explain that no matter how terribly low you've sank, that time will heal you. chris basically says "Don't do what Andy did. Don't fall into the trap of heroin. Don't loose hope, and don't fall short of your full potential". the part of the song that speaks to me the most is " i somebody left you out on a ledge and if somebody pushed you over the edge, and if somebody LOVED YOU AND LEFT YOU FOR DEAD, youve gotta hold on to your time till you break through these times of trouble". don't forget what they've done is what he's trying to say, but move on and learn. |

Pearl Jam – Why Go Lyrics

this is a song that many can relate to. this girl was institutionalized and labeled by people who could never understand her, as insane. she could do nothing but stay trapped in that hospital. authority has taken over and isolated her for doing something as stupid as many of us had done. |

Pearl Jam – Nothing as It Seems Lyrics

i have a very strong feeling that this song is about someone who has seeked help for a drug addiction. he goes to a clinic and feels homesick. "putting in imputting in dont feel like methadone". the part that speaks the most is "who's kidding? rainy day, a one way ticket headstone. occupation's overthrown. a whisper through a megaphone". this says that he is in so much pain, and screaming within, but nobody understands or hears him. he's lost everything and is left with nothing but a second chance. |

i have a good feeling that this song is about the passing of Layne Staley. "i coughed up the price, i bought a cage" the cage symbolizes heroin... which led to Staley's premature death. RIP Layne Staley |

Nevermore – Next In Line Lyrics
|
im sure this song can be interpreted many different ways. these lyrics are almost totally metaphorical. i believe that this song is purely about heroin. the ways that he describes it is amazing. "i taste the fear to numb the tear" would mean that he risks everything to lift the pain from him. this is an effect of heroin. it brings temporary relief of depression and pain and emotionally numbs the user. "i don't want to be saved. i'm next in line to die" means to me that he wants to numb himself permanently. he is addicted to the relief of his pain. "the corporation used me like they brainwashed you" means that he feels that we are all victims of mindless propaganda and lies. "this void illusion i suffer for". in this line he says that his relief is only temporary, merely an illusion and it is not who he really is. and he suffers greatly because of it, he is falling endlessly into the abyss of drugs. "trapped by the source of my infection" could mean that his life is completely in the syringe. "life is seen through heroin". "i'm a dead man, i'm a sick man, i'm the pilot of my destruction" is self explanatory. he knows he's destroying his life, but he won't go against it or maybe he cannot. |

this song is about not trusting anything becauseof the fear of disappointment and broken dreams. leaning on a crutch that you cannot see may indeed be nonexistent. and he is afraid of the fall. |

Alice in Chains – Right Turn Lyrics

this is one of my favorite alice in chains songs. i see it as a song that basically says "we're stuck in a ditch in the road and we have no clue as of what to do to get out of it". they take it upon themselves and feel guilt because of what they couldve done to make everything right. |

Alice in Chains – Don't Follow Lyrics

i feel that this song is simply about trying to leave the past behind and starting over. he has nothing left but himself to take care of and he's confused on how to do it, because he feels his life is going downhill. though he has a great deal of ambition to carry on with his life. |

this is just fucking meaningless. haha! when i first listened to Sap, i least expected this to be the fifth track, since every other song on there was a bit depressing and mostly acoustic. this added a bit of humor to the album. hilarious stuff. |

Alice in Chains – Died Lyrics
|
i have to agree with aicguy22. this song is most certainly about Demri who died of heart complications as a result of heroin use. Layne didn't take her passing very well, especially since he hadn't seen her for a while before she died. that is one of the main reasons why he became a total recluse in '96. this song was released on Music Bank in '99, so i dont think it was written in AIC's early days. |

Alice in Chains – Hate To Feel Lyrics
|
I'm sure this song is about regret and drugs and degredation trips, as are most alice songs. Layne at this point is describing his denial and confusion as he's slowly degrading himself with drugs and past suffering. he feels as if he doesn't deserve to live, because he is just another junkie...a machine with a constant ritual. "new orleans gotta get pincushion medicine(refers to heroin) used to be curious. now the shit's substanance". he explains how he got to be an addict in this line. he also hints that his father may have had a drug problem as well "all this time i swore i'd never be like my old man. what the hey, it's time to face exactly who i am". |

Alice in Chains – The Killer Is Me Lyrics
| 22 years ago
|
i'm not sure if this one was written by Jerry or Layne, but the lyrics do say a lot. "dont need a gun pointed at me. no need to run. killer is me" is self explanatory. he's killing himself (probably about drugs, but no certain) it's all about regret and wishing that he could go back and time and start off again with a clean slate. but facing reality, he has no choice but to move on. this is his biggest obstacle... how do i move on from here? how can i make things right again? i'm insane for destroying myself. |

Alice in Chains – God Smack Lyrics
|
drug addiction is definitely what this is about. "so your sickness weighs a ton and God's name is smack for some". this basically means that heroin(smack) is a main concern. addicts will do anything for it. "for the horse you've grown much fonder than for me, that i dont ponder". that's self explanitory as well. "be yearning all your life" describes the addiction. |

Alice in Chains – Shame In You Lyrics

this is one of my favorite alice songs. this is one of laynes best. he is once again completely consumed by regret and sorrow. he also admits that he is the only one who has caused himself pain. he thinks about his pain constantly "now you hear me for the things i've seen. yeah i believe in inner peace". once again, he feels isolated, so he keeps everything bottled up "grow out, blow up, hold in, show fine, no signs, grow blind". he is degrading from within. |

Alice in Chains – Frogs Lyrics

This is an amazing song. Dark, very depressing. Once again about heroin. My personal favorite on their self titled album. Layne is basically saying that he's way in over his head with the heroin. "pupils widen change their hue, rapid brown avoid clear blue"... "why's it have to be this way" he's regretting everything. "innocence spins cold cocoon. grow to see the pain too soon" is pretty self explanitory. it also ties into a lyric from rotten apple "what i see is unreal. ive written my own part, eat of the apple so young, i'm crawling back to start" He's saying that he's seen some terrible things that have left him scarred. now the part where it sounds like he's mumbling is where he admits that he's too young to already be dying. it's as if he's talking to the heroin in a way. |

Mad Season – Artificial Red Lyrics
|
Again, this song is most likely about Layne's battle with drugs. "Is this the way I spend my days in recovery of a fatal disease". This part is a little heavier than the rest of the song, in his expression of fustration in fighting his battle. "0n a cloud of pink has turned to grey and I'm alone again", indeed very similar to the lyrics in Angry Chair. He's basically saying that he is in a constant state of sorrow and regret in his isolation. |

Mad Season – Wake Up Lyrics

In this song, Layne admits that he has a heroin problem and he desparately wants to get sober "wake up young man, it's tme to wake up. Your love affair has got to go" He says that he needs to get his life in order after all the years of wasted time. This addiction has completely consumed him and he's crying for help. He knows his life could be much better without heroin and all of the pain it had caused him. |

Mad Season – Long Gone Day Lyrics

this song is one of my favorites by mad season. i think ive figured it all out by the liner notes in the above album. it's basically about wanting to get in touch with those that you loved, but haven't kept in touch with over the years and wanting the good times to last. once they're gone or "washed away with the rain" you feel such isolation and loneliness. the one line that really got me bawling, especially when Layne died was "silver spoons affix the crown. the luckless ones are broken" meaning that many of his friends had drifted into heroin, including himself. and died. this was written only a short time before Demri, Layne's fiance died. they had a falling out a year or so before. |
