i think the words are actually Am i the only one - not im not the only one and that fits in much better with him talking about the being made to feel like he is raped by the media. It definitely also speaks volume about people who have been raped and the pit of depression they fall into. im sure this song has both meanings |

wow i like that the rock is material things, and even one more, that the rock hides her but she cant hide because its all 'on that day' - judgement day river- the river bleeds if you notice, physical conditions related to boozing the sea - is like the abyss everything bad, when you just plunge into doing wrong, and its boiling because its so sinful and there is a desperate cry to God who is disdainful of her repentance and says "where were you?' so this song is many things to many people. The stanza that always got me was Dragonfly out in the sun you know what I mean, don't you know Butterflies all havin' fun, you know what I mean Sleep in peace when day is done, that's what I mean And this old world, is a new world And a bold world for me I think when people suggest it is sinister this is what they are referring to . Sleep in peace sounds like rest in peace, day is done almost sounds like when she has died and the new world is some sort of redemption. This song reminds me of the sonnet 'Death be not proud' by john donne |

although from the words it seems straightforward, if we are talking about the Nina Simone version, like everything she does - i think it goes deeper. The sombre, melancholic piano music, slow drum snare, the depth of the sadness in her voice. This is about how love can leave you helpless and hopeless. - Love me, love me, love me, say you do The person she addresses has no idea how much power they have over her - she even laughs it off at one point - hmm.. Don't you know you're life itself? best line is - like a leaf clings to a tree, oh my darling cling to me.. at this point you think she is the leaf, but its actually her object of love - almost daring him/her to love with the same intensity that she does |
