@[Dead:47096] I know I'm a good 21 years too late but I felt it was worth mentioning that Daft Punk's style throughout most of their discography is Electro Funk.

Coldplay – 42 Lyrics 11 months ago
@[neverpanic:47087] @[castlearro:47088] The title "42" is a reference to The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy in which a super advanced computer, known as "Deep Thoughts" created by a group of technologically advanced aliens known as the Magratheans was created to find the answer to the ultimate question which is "what is the answer to life, the universe, and everything?". Deep Thoughts then stated that to find such an answer would take 7½ million years

Bearing in mind that The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is a comedic Sci Fi story which loves to joke about philosophy, the end result was naturally somewhat disappointing in a hilariously typical way....Deep Thoughts completed it's calculations and concluded that the answer to life, the universe, and everything is.....42.

Now, anyone who is a fan of Douglas Adams' work will know that things get even more ridiculous later on in the sequel stories but his writing has lead to a lot of people stating that the meaning of life is 42, and given the subject matter of this song I'm willing to bet that this is what Coldplay are referencing.

Pendulum – Hold Your Colour Lyrics 1 year ago
On frequent listens I hear "she looked into your LIES, and saw what laid beneath, don't try to save yourself, the circle is complete" which doesn't significantly change the meaning but does almost seem to suggest that it's a breakup song centring around some dark action being committed by the other half (this might be unrelated but Pendulum did later create Crush which is a song that centres around the other half of a relationship committing an act of abuse which suggests that Rob might have an interest in writing about abusive relationships).

The whole twisting the knife lyric is rather difficult to hear clearly but I feel it holds the key to figuring out whether or not this song is aimed at the victim or the perpetrator.

One interesting sidenote is that the Hold Your Colour lyric predates Pendulum and was originally part of a song that Rob and Gareth made with a band they were in called Xygen who had something of an emo style to their music. It's a mostly unrelated detail but it could potentially help out towards figuring this song out.

@[billythepub:43059] @[if:43060] ur 555 im 6(sic)6 No one's denying that, it just seems bizarre for them to go onto a website called "songmeanings" just to tell everyone how much they love a song without discussing its meaning.

They're entitled to their opinions and other people are entitled to find those opinions unnecessary and irrelevant to the point of the website they're being posted on.

Example – Won't Go Quietly Lyrics 1 year ago
Man, these lyrics were posted about 13 years ago yet the only comments on a site called SONGMEANINGS have nothing to do with the meaning of the song? Smh

To me this song seems to be about a guy forming a serious relationship with a woman that he knows has a reputation for being a heartbreaker and saying bad things about those whose hearts she has broken in the past (hence the key lyric "Now she's here and she won't go quietly").

Toward the end of the song he seems to be admitting to himself that he doesn't really know how this whole situation will end and just wants to get it over and done with: "Can't see the end of this or who survives
It's just another case of do or die"

I'm not one for interpreting songs so I'm sorry if this a little vague, but since nobody else on the planet seemed interested I figured I'd give it a shot.

The Streets – Blinded by the Lights Lyrics 2 years ago
@[pumkinhed:38837] 17 years later and I'm your first reply, I wonder if you forgot about this comment? Anyhow, the eerie edge probably comes from the use of flat notes by whoever produced the song. It's one of the things I've noticed from messing around with a piano is that if you switch from the white notes to the black notes or vice versa at just the right moment it can create a more darker, slightly off key sound that we associate with negative emotions. Of course I might be miles off but that's usually what causes it. Either that or one of the oscillators on the synth has been slightly detuned.

Pendulum – Witchcraft Lyrics 2 years ago
To me the song is either about the woman's partner trying to use Witchcraft to bring her back to life or the woman's partner going through the bargaining stage of grief and just generally trying anything he can to keep her alive to no avail.

Another theory I have is that the song is from the perspective of both her partner who just killed her and someone else (either a friend, a neighbour, or even a passer by) who is trying to keep her alive but doesn't realise that the killer is still in the house.

I'll admit these interpretations aren't perfect but this is a pretty tough song to figure out.

@[Janneson:37718] To me the whole of Immersion (or at least the songs that aren't instrumental) centres around the theme of bad relationships; even the artwork to me is a visual representation of a couple in denial (they're so focused on each other that they don't realise they're drowning with the other people being representative of their friends and family trying desperately to reach out to them), also Pendulum's music videos aren't always that focused on the lyrics which could mean that the music video is more representative of the song title than it is of the lyrics.

I'd also like to add that in the cases where the song title isn't in the lyrics there's usually a more indirect connection between the lyrics and the title (such as Propane Nightmares being a reference to Thomas Nichols who used Propane to end his life as part of a ritual that was similar to that of the Heaven's Gate cult. Said cult is the subject matter of the song).

I'll leave a separate analysis of the song itself but I just felt these details were worth mentioning.

Snow Patrol – Chasing Cars Lyrics 5 years ago
a quote from the Wikipedia article for this song that might guide the meaning a bit:

"Lead singer Gary Lightbody reportedly wrote the song when he became sober after a binge of white wine, in the garden of song producer Jacknife Lee's Kent cottage. The song has Lightbody singing a plain melody over sparse guitars, which has an ever-building crescendo. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he said "It's the purest love song that I've ever written. There's no knife-in-the-back twist. When I read these lyrics back, I was like, 'Oh, that's weird.' All the other love songs I've written have a dark edge." The phrase "Chasing Cars" came from Lightbody's father, in reference to a girl Lightbody was infatuated with, "You're like a dog chasing a car. You'll never catch it and you just wouldn't know what to do with it if you did."
