| I wasn't aware of this song until a local group called Victor & Penny (Kansas City) included a cover of it on their latest album. It apparently opened as #3 on the folk chart in March 2016. Anyway, I like the song a lot and wondered just what it was about. Thought of the vampire and werewolf angles, or just a Jack the Ripper type serial killer who does his grisly business under the cloak of darkness. The Victor & Penny version has upped the tempo and uses mournful-sounding vocals from Penny (Erin McGrane) in place of some of the instruments right after the chorus. On lead vocals, Victor (Jeff Freling) brings the final verse to a little more of a crescendo than Sting does. | |
