Beach House – The Traveller Lyrics 7 years ago
The first stanza to me seemed literal about coming home and not feeling loved "going through the motions of a relationship"

I am just a traveller/body aching- This is the realization of being someone who appreciates life in its purest form. Someone here for love as opposed to the chase of societal acceptance/money. Life is not forever we are merely just here for a short while. Much like silver souls and being driven by spirit.

Would I be acting up if I said its not enough?
There is nothing blatantly wrong with this relationship it is just not what she wants. She wants another 'traveller'

Who knows who else is with- Missed opportunities with others who may be the travelers she likes to believe they are still single and unsatisfied. This is where you may delve into the thought of soulmates. Finding someone else with the light in their eyes who can appreciate this life. The invisible future is these other opportunities never happening.

Heard its your birthday now- This is almost mocking the non-traveller as they are getting old and celebrating it even tho their life is still so shallow. Theres some kind of literary element with 'blow' and them melting away as that represents the non travellers (money people not looking for love but yet for social acceptance)

Her partner is not a traveller. She cannot get them riled up and they are quite content not having the itch/ache to get out there and do the glorious things that come with our short lives.

Would I be acting up if I said not that much? This is giving in and becoming complacent with her partner even tho she knows they are not the 'one'

She feels she cant do any better and that this person is the best shot they have. Wrapping up the song with accepting her life being relatively little in the grand scheme as we can often times find solace in the fact that we are so small compared to the rest of our worlds. To feel small and to be able to fully embrace the night you must turn your light (thrive, want for the deeper more for fulfilling goals in life) off in order to enjoy being small. Nobody should ever enjoy being small and giving into a 9-5 lifestlye of money, cars, jobs. Our time here is far too short to spend it worrying about other peoples thoughts of us. So to me this is a rather dim ending. Beautiful song!

Talking Heads – This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) Lyrics 7 years ago
Home is where I want to be
Pick me up and turn me around

The narrator wants to be 'home' somewhere safe/familiar. Clearly he is not there because he wants to be turned around.

I feel numb, burn with a weak heart
Guess I must be having fun

The narrator has grown numb. His heart burns with weakness. (When the honeymoon phase has ended and its now all too real/longs for a time when there was still passion). Everyone else HAS to be feeling this too. They appear to not hate it I guess I must be having fun. (This part reminds me very much of No Suprises by Radiohead).

The less we say about it, the better
Make it up as we go along

Both people know the passion is gone and the relationship is not what it once was. Its like they wrote a story with an ending with no pages in between. They must make it up now until their 'ending' (death). Obviously ending the relationship is out of the question.

Feet on the ground, head in the sky
Its okay I know nothing's wrong, nothing

Rationality of the relationship vs dreaming about something more. Picture a middleaged woman unhappy with most aspects of her life but cannot change anything because of debt, divorce, etc. The narrator once again reiterates the relationship is not what it once was. 'Nothing' is wrong. There isnt a real issue within the relationship. Nobody is cheating or lying. The relationship is just dead. The 2nd nobody is the narrators denial of such a cruel fate.

I got plenty of time
You got light in your eyes
And your standing here beside me

The narrator is convincing himself that he has enough time to fix this. Either he can reignite the flame of their love or he can move on (hes young). The girl still has the light in her eyes representing youth and devotion to the relationship. One of the most apparent lines is your standing here beside me. They are not standing together yet they are standing beside each other. They are not whole/not one. They are two individuals.

Never for money, always for love
Cover up and say goodnight, say goodnight

Both people in the relationship are good people seeking a real-love relationship. They do love each other by saying cover up and goodnight. There is no hostility. Theres just no romance. Some may say like brothers on a hotel bed. The 2nd goodnight coincides with the 2nd nothing. The narrator is trying to convince himself nothing is wrong by being so sure with his goodnights. (That feeling of blatantly lying when your woman asks you if her butt looks good when it looks awful. Of course your gonna over-do the compliments because you both know it looks awful).

Home is where I want to be
But I guess Im already there

Very similar to the opening lines. The narrator wants the perfect 'home' hes been dreaming of but he is in bittersweet realization he is the closest hell ever get.

I come home, she lifted up her wings
I guess that this must be the place

The narrator goes home to a welcoming woman. She will willingly take him in. The wings serve as a dual-symbol. Both 'taking him under her wing' and her yearning angst to fly away. This unknowing female (just as unsure as he is) is the closest he will ever get to home.

I can't tell one from the other
I find you or you find me?

This is kind of the aging of their relationship. At the beginning the narrator states he has plenty of time but as the song progresses he seems more and more trapped into this relationship much like a game or romantic musical chairs. You hit a certain age and 'all the good ones are taken'. But basically its been so long that theyve been together they cant remember their origin.

There was a time before we were born
If someone asks, this is where I'll be, where I'll be

Both people envisioned a relationship like this before they even met. They wanted to be where they are now but they still have no contentment.

We drift in and out
Sing into my mouth
Out of all those kinds of people
You got a face with a view

They occasionally cross paths with their loves and passion once more. They can both reminisce the spark that once was. The sing into my mouth is romantic passion crossed with repetition (sing the same song over and over). But in the end out of all of each others options they did pretty darn good. They still see each others beauty even after all this time and the spark being gone. Much like an elderly couple they could have chose different routes but no they chose the route with each other and grew old together.

Im just an animal looking for a home
And share the same space for a minute or two
And you love me till my heart stops
Love me till Im dead

This is nearing the end of life all together. Getting philosophical with what is life and accepting the cold hard truth that we are all just animals. Our existence is very minor in the grand scheme of things. You loved me until I stopped loving back (heart stopped). Love me until I die. The narrator has accepted her as his life partner.

Eyes that light up
Eyes look through you
Cover up the blank spots
Hit me on the head

The woman's eyes are still illuminated she never fell out of love/admiration all of this time. The man was looking for something more and completely saw past this. He saw nothing but blank spots as alternatives this whole time. He wishes he could change the fact that he spent so much time looking for more when he already had it. He wishes his woman would have hit him years ago so he would spend his time appreciating her instead of letting his mind/heart wander.

Brilliantly written. Few songs can explain those feelings in between feelings as well as this does.

Tame Impala – Let It Happen Lyrics 8 years ago
In the first stanza the "noise" I feel is a representation of one's deeper thoughts and goals. The voice saying 'Let it happen' is the pressure one feels by society to follow the rinse and repeat order. As they see everyone else carrying on their every day life as if it were meant to be.

In the second stanza the running around represents one's every day life work bills rent etc. The ocean growing inside is the angst building up to go and do something outside the societal norm that is set for them. The others seeming shallow is like questioning why don't others feel this way? And then the alarm and morning arriving is like running out of time to sit and dwell it is now time to act.

The third stanza is about giving into wanting to pursue some true meaning in life. And the whirlwind would be the friction caused by others criticizing one for going out of the normal societal pattern. I believe this has heavy relation with 'Currents' itself about the current within each one of us. Our 'angst' that still hasn't been settled.

The fourth stanza is finally going through with leaving and finding what it is one is looking for/what it is they need to feel complete. If one dies 'ticker fails' he doesn't want anyone knowing that he was defeated upon his journey. Also feeling some slight dismay about letting close people down such as one's mother. And if for whatever reason if you find a new life in a different 'place' and an apology in advance in case one doesn't return.

The fifth stanza is a little unclear but it sounds like one is at a crossroads with their lover because they want them to understand but doesn't want to get them caught up in it as well.

I made an account just to post about this song because it spoke to me so deeply. A lot of my opinions are based off the music video which in my opinion goes hand in hand with the lyrics. It's about a man who has been sucked into work and traveling and does not feel much purpose and he keeps dying/running out of time. It really made me think if I am spending my time wisely. As I feel it was intended to.
