Julia Zahra – Just an Illusion (BZN cover) Lyrics 7 years ago
“I've been told 'bout living like a star
Hotel Rich, champagne and caviar
But no one ever showed me the reverse
And that really hurts, babe, it really hurts”

- The singer has been taught all her life to be a star, to aspire after the lifestyle a star leads and none has actually shown her the reverse. It means, none has actually shown the dark aspects of being a star.

“They try to sell your body and your soul
It's the price you pay for rock'n roll
And no one understands it, how you feel
For it's so unreal, oh, it's so unreal”

-The corporations, commercial media, music industry they treat an artist merely a product. Some artists are expensive, some are cheap/affordable to them. Its the ‘price’ the singer is talking about. No one actually tries to understand the feeling of an artist behind his/her creation.

“Baby, don't you cry for me
It's an illusion, just an illusion
I thought I knew what life should be
It's an illusion, just an illusion”

- This life of stardom is merely an illusion. The people tempt for the lives of the stars, shed tears, sometimes do crazy stuffs just to become a star or to lead a life like them; but merely the stardom is just an illusion. The singer realizes it now, what she thinks she should have done it earlier.

“When critics crucify your latest show
Another drink and then you lose control
But then on stage I feel a fire burn
There is no return;
I'm always on the run
I give it to you, babe, with all my heart
For it's not too late, baby, it's not too late”

- The singer considers there is actually no returning back to the normal life once you have tasted the wine of stardom. Even if you really do not want the spotlight always hanging above your head, you cannot live in the darkness once it is moved. There is no turning back for a star not to be. But, the common people, they have the choice. For this, the singer is urging the people not to get confused with the illusion of stardom and aspire after it so blindly.

The gist is, everyone gets dazzled with the bright glaze of the curtains, but no once actually seen the darkness behind them. I think this is the song all about.
