| This is such a great song. It's the best one off of Ghost Stories IMHO. To me, this song has several meanings, but first and foremost I think it refers to Gwyneth Paltrow's adulterous run-ins with another lover. Obviously, Chris is hurt that she is in "another's arms". But the meaning of the song goes beyond this. Not only does it hurt to think about her adulterous behavior, but being with Paltrow isn't the same anymore. Being in "another's arms" is now painful because the relationship is damaged (and Chris is damaged). There is a third meaning, which is Chris himself being in another lover's arms (he himself being an adulterer, because he wants to escape his damaged relationship with Paltrow). But no matter who he's with, it's not the same, and it hurts to be in "another's arms" because he still loves Gwyneth. I imagine either one or all of these scenarios is true, and they inspired Chris to write the song. | |
