Modest Mouse is deeper than a prom. The dance if life? Possibly. This more likely has to do with a funeral or wedding These are Things you would say about someone he had " a nice heart" at a funeral or wedding. "White suit" outfit your buried in or married in. "Baby blue sedan" the car that takes you to your next journey - a vehicle to your life you are starting if ur talking of a wedding. Or your funeral - symbolic of the casket or Hearst to your next life. The person who is in life or knows the decseassd is " doing the best that I can" . Surviving- barely because life is hard in every sense of the way. The correct lyric is " I shot the stork cuz I didn't hear it complain " or " i didn't hear it come in " Shooting the stork?- an abortion. Not quite a baby yet in the world - the stork . Or it could be the delivering to the next life- quiet . It is most definitely a song if saddened lament, loss, and disadvantage. Also "Henry you dance like a one footed Indian". A metafor for a disadvantaged person of generational hurts from the world . Think of how shitty the Indians have been treated and the sorrow one may have from that inside. Then if you were dancing through life on one foot- hopping/ it would be complete disability on top of that. Complete handicap in life. Sad and tragicly beautiful |

| @[wilder:664] . Agree. I think this is deeper than prom. This is about a wedding or starting a life with some one. Also I think he got her pregnant and then she got an abortion. " I shot the stork cause I didn't hear it complain/ ( possibly "come in"). And it's hard to be human - maybe it's the hard contemplation one has when considering having a child or abortion. It is definitely a sad and heavy emotionally laden song of a depth bigger than prom. It also reminds us, we are all being human for the first time, we don't know what is the right answer, the best way, the right decision in all the labyrinths of life. I always thought he said " you dance like a one footed Indian"- someone with every disadvantage in life to be successful. Born into generational hurts and disadvantages as well as being handicapped by "hopping" on one foot through life. Complete disability to make life easier even though desperately trying against all odds to do so. Incredible artistry and touching song | |
