The cover of Teenage Dream has a painting of Katy Perry, naked, on a cotton candy cloud. Her first album had the song Hot n Cold. In her song Firework she states, "maybe a reason why all the doors were closed, so you could open one that leads you to the perfect road." It's interesting how these three facts directly reference the Angel in Laodicea from the Book of Revelations in the Bible: "And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, 'These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: "I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing' - and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked - I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. He states this explicitly through John the Baptist as a letter to this angel in Philadelphia. History repeats itself- Taylor Swift was born just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Angels are messengers of God, and are born as such... meaning they preach the word of God to world. That is their function, their purpose and this song is testament to that. | |

I think this is pretty spot on, but I think he's actually speaking, in a way, to Jesus when he says "do you have the power to let power go?" Trippin off the power is also a reference to the idea that many people think Power (electricity) and modern society will basically fall and be destroyed at the end of the world before jesus returns. "Till then, fuck that, the world's out" references that the world is his for now until the power gets tripped off/war starts and the modern world is destroyed before the second coming. It's pretty prophetic and apocryphal to say the least. Super interesting, and I think comes from a learned place or at least inspired place. :) |
