Jethro Tull – Life Is A Long Song Lyrics 10 years ago
The poetry of this song could be summed up by these words of Plato: “And all things human bestir themselves…and vanish.” This is not far from the usual philosophy of our intrepid Scottish poet. What more hopeful poesy can Ian Anderson offer his fans than presenting a view of life wherein this life is considered man’s full portion with nothing hereafter? In spite of this transitory perspective of his on existence, I confess that there is a soul of beauty in his musical interpretation of Life with his dazzling flute and often quite noble sounding voice. May he consider the immortality of his own soul.

Jethro Tull – Beastie Lyrics 10 years ago
I always thought that the music at the beginning of this song would work great as an accompaniment to an audio or film version of Dante's descent into Hell, or anyone's descent into Hell. Very chilling and terrifying intro music and effects.

Anderson nailed reality pretty accurately in much of this song, and the futility of mortal men in their human strength to deliver men from their demons. Anderson expresses no aspirations for help from above in the struggle against our mortal foe, but rather, in his characteristic irreverent fashion, tells us to give Satan Hell. It might make for a good song and bluster, but it's poor advice for people with real demons. But insofar as the song mirrors truth, it's a pretty thought provoking song, the lyrics of which I have introduced in public speaking many times.

Jethro Tull – A Time For Everything Lyrics 10 years ago
It is certainly more true now than ever that there is no time for everything. With the advent of recorded music and YouTube, and cable tv, there is not enough time in a thousand lifetimes to sample all that has and is being recorded with concision.

There was once a wise old sage that told us that the deity had placed eternity within our hearts. Quite a few of his sayings have come down to us, though we know that he did not do a very good job of practicing what he recommended. But he looked within himself and wondered from where came his infinite longings. His last advice was: "Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man."

Jethro Tull – Reasons For Waiting Lyrics 10 years ago
I fell in love with this song when it came out and I love it still. This song reveals what Ian Anderson can do when he has a subdued song. From his mature voice here emanates love and kindness. How very poetic: “…came a thousand miles just to catch you while you’re smiling…” That, my friends, is a superb sentiment. Had I not known who Anderson was, and that he looked like a bridge troll from fairy tales, it would have been easier to believe that I was listening to a loving husband. In this most exquisite piece of music he sounds very paternal and conservative. This song sparkles and deserves to live.
