Could be just a love song but I think it's America's version of "Danny Boy," which was a song about a son going to war and the father who wished he could take his place. Would You Lay With Me sounds like a man/woman willing to sacrifice their life for country..."go a thousand miles...then when it talks about wipe the blood away (war) and finally "lay with me in a field of stone" (cemetery) "if my love" (for my country) "were strong, would you lay with me?" (Comrades) JMHO :) |
