Check this out! This song is about FEAR. They don't specify what of, so I'll call it 'IT', just like Mr. King did. 'AIR' is what keeps us alive, it surrounds us. It represents the WORLD. It's beautiful, but scary. IT is somewhere there too. I'm scared of spiders, for example. It makes me sad, it makes me cry and it carves craters from my eyes. But ''They'' say ''Breath and you will live''. They must be right. But the songs says the opposite. It says that we should pray and keep our mouths shut. Sit at home and never see the sun. Home is safe. We want to be safe, because safety is avoiding the danger. I'm scared that the spider will bite me and kill me. I'm scared of pain and death. I'm scared of dentists. But the dentist is getting his hands dirty to fix my teeth. He wants to help, so he will wear his gloves and sort me out. Back to the song. It tells us not to feel bad for the innocent children who suffer from hunger or cancer. If they wanted to live, they would learn, they will figure out how. How? None of your concern. You stay where you are and shut up, mind your own damn business. Otherwise you'll regret. Because the song tells you so. Or... hold your breath, close your eyes. And look how the witches burn. And as it burns the devil or whatever was supposed to make witches 'bad', and then you see that they are just normal women. How could we be scared of those pretty little things! | I'm not going to say what the song means, but what I think it means. And I only listened to it less than 20 times, read lyrics once and am non-native English - basically I am no expert. But to me now this song is clearly about the phase I now have in my life and it's pretty amazing. It's when you actually start living your life free of all that was stopping you before, fear mostly, or the feeling you are not worth it. It's about the fire, the passion inside you that just can't wait to get out. And I personally see the author winking at me when he says 'this is real', as what I'm now going through feels so overwhelming (in a good way!) that it actually does seem unreal - like a really fast drive. I could probably write a long essay explaining in detail which line represents what to me, but that would probably be boring as I was never good at poetry at school. And possibly I'm just stating the obvious here, but it's about breaking free. | |
