Katie Melua – The Flood Lyrics 11 years ago
I took this in a more biblical sense, simply because it mentions blame and floods. In this light, it sounds like the flood washing away sin and the sinners. Human sin is natural, so no one is to blame for the second flood (and earth crumbling implies apocalypse).
"Why do you feel you have to hold on" conjures up the thoughts of people desperately trying to survive the end of the world when it's so much easier just to let go, and in that sense, die or be purified.

The moral sense most people have gets contaminated by what we see and do, and we slowly ignore what is right. The "ancient rhythm" may refer to a more spiritual sense.
