Rush – Neurotica Lyrics 10 years ago
"Exotica? This is really Neal Peart that wrote these lyrics?"

It is an age-old convention in poetry to create new words or use rare words to better express one's ideas. Just look at Shakespeare. The ideas within "exotica" or "chaotica" are still present.

Rush – The Pass Lyrics 10 years ago
This one reminds me a lot of Collective Soul's "The World I Know", (especially the trembling on the ledge part) which was the first song to bring tears to my eyes. This one is almost as emotional for me. Not because I can relate to the ideas in the song, but just because I can understand them. Well written, and probably one of my favorite's from this album.

I love the sound of every song on this album! This is by far one of my favorite albums, (as far as RUSH is concerned, second only to 2112). The imagery and emotion in all of Presto's songs just astounds me. Underrated song? More like an underrated album.

A tribute to balance in all things.
Most beautiful song I am aware of.

Rush – Closer to the Heart Lyrics 11 years ago
@ VitoD

I don't think this song is an underlying plan to world domination...
Just me personally, at least...I don't think this song was INTENDED anyway, to be either deceptive or evil.
I feel strongly that this is more of an anthem to change, if nothing else. Those with the power or reason to stepping forward, demanding change. All people, from philosophers to plowmen, playing their part in society--I don't think that means as slaves--and helping to keep the world turning.

Everyone working for the world that we all live in. A message of unity and change.

That's just my belief, at least.

Rush – Territories Lyrics 11 years ago
"Can't really feel
What international means"

Yes, I agree with a lot of the ideas mentioned here. This quotation above really sums it up for me. We claim that ideas like globalization really exists. We claim to have peace among ourselves. Yet we are surrounded and divided by borders. I think this song is suggesting how ridiculous nationalism can be; that we should just consider ourselves human, men and women of Earth, and function entirely the way our countries function--together.

Constant change is here today.

If we had change when we needed it.

Rush – Roll The Bones Lyrics 11 years ago
I really love this song. I've come to find freedom and fairness are trying issues in our modern world. People today are strong believers in working for a good life. But what about the babies in Africa who die before they reach the age of one? Were they not working hard enough? Did they deserve to die?

It's sad, but whether we live a good life, or a short one, is really just a roll of the dice. Whether you're born here, or there. You're able to come to this site and check out these stunning lyrics not because you worked hard for it.

You were born here, and those dying all around us, were not.

Rush – Freewill Lyrics 11 years ago
Assuming you're right and they intended for their INDIVIDUAL POINT OF VIEW that perhaps there is no celestial voice out there to be heard, I don't think that is very hypocritical. Neil Peart is admires parts of Ayn Rand's philosophy, as do I, and Mrs. Rand is all about the power of the self. I don't believe in extremes, but balance. It is important we have both selfishness and Selflessness to function at our best.

Considering the ideas of the self, our egos, being just as important as caring for others, one cannot also believe in a supernatural being, for that takes away from our freewill. Many religious people believe in a god that controls everything we do. Every action, every movement, every thought is not our own, but God's.

This idea is sad for someone who believes in freewill, for someone who feels we all are our own souls, making our own decisions, affecting both our own lives and the lives of those around us.

By opposing a God they are not being hypocritical. They are keeping to the theme.

People, please DON'T take this as a hit against religion. I don't care what anyone believes in, in fact, power to ya for believing in something on your own! (Assuming you came to believe in what you do by your own free will O.o)

I was only trying to state my views on potential hypocrisy.

Rush – Tom Sawyer Lyrics 11 years ago
"A creative man is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others." -Ayn Rand

I always bring up this quote when people seem to be focusing too much on what the other guy is doing.
"A world of real individuals united through their love of life is a defense force that cannot be stopped."

Changes aren't permanent, but change is.

That just about says it all.

This comment has been voted down, but it's not like joey503 here is hurting on RUSH. Most people who check out these lyrics on this site are huge fans of RUSH. They are one of the most talented and skilled bands out there today, and still putting out amazing music! They are a power trio of modern day warriors.

I heard from a friend and fellow RUSH fan that the band thought that Tom Sawyer was their least favorite song on the album. Does that mean it is a bad song? Not at all, this song is a work of art! It has my favorite RUSH line of all time in it:

"He knows that changes aren't permanent
But change IS"

There are so many RUSH songs out there that are so intelligent and stunning that the whole world should know them. That is what joey is saying. Not hurting on Tom Sawyer, just saying that there are other RUSH songs just as deserving of the limelight.

Rush – The Trees Lyrics 11 years ago
I think that, like with a lot of the music that Rush puts out, this song has ambiguity. It can represent the Canada-America relationship, or the relationship between the Europeans and the Natives of North America, or it can touch on a much broader array of topics, like equality in general.

That's the thing about Rush, everything they write is capable of connecting with someone in some way, and there are often people who go away with wider eyes, so to speak.

Equality is a word that is used too loosely. I personally believe that all people and creatures should have the same, equal CHANCE to have the good and healthy life that they desire. Those who work harder or prove that they mean business are the ones who deserve these lives. Blatantly saying that all people have the right to a good life is just ignorant. But we still should understand that there are so many people around the world that don't have the opportunity at all to even try for the kind of life they may deserve, and that is unfair...born into the shade.

Look at this, 2013 and RUSH still has people dwelling into these deep thoughts. What a band.

The italicized words are part of the story Peart attached to the rest of the song, found in the album cover.

In case you didn't figure it out over the past four years. :D
