The Rosebuds – Shake Our Tree Lyrics

Love love love this song. So happy and fun to sing. One thing, though, I think "Are you ever gonna treat me right" should be "Will you ever not treat me right," otherwise it clashes with the rest of the song (It seems to me that he WILL treat her right.) Plus, that's what I hear in the line. |

Whether this song is about a breakup or not, the message from his mother at the beginning just kills me because it reminds me of my own mother. This is an amazing song. |

The Jim Yoshii Pile Up – Double Negative Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
For the record, the real lyrics to "Double Negative" are:
This, this is the truth
I’ve checked all my facts
and I’ve got all the proof I need
I keep forgetting why I’m here,
I keep feeling I shouldn’t be
The looks I keep getting,
the talk in my ear keeps reminding me.
It reminds me how our friendship died,
how my presence here is a thorn in your side
I keep forgetting why I’m here, it’s because
I’m a petty guy who spends his time
fabricating useless lies
I wanna know
why you had to say the things you said,
the time you spent inside my head
I don’t mind
The truth is somewhere in between,
hurting you and killing me
You are resigned
with your shoulders shrugged, a sideways glance,
a nodded head, a non-response
It’s so unkind
The truth is somehow hidden
but still hurting you
It’s a lie
It’s my lovesong to you.
Incredible song. |

Jason Mraz – Mr. Curiosity Lyrics

A few months before Mr. AZ came out, my birthday fell smack-dab in the middle of a fight against depression, so this song hit me hard the first time I heard it. I love Jason. |

Thsi is my favorite of the demos because of the obvious Smiths parallels. Beautiful. |

The Jim Yoshii Pile Up – Silver Sparklers Lyrics

I read somewhere that this song deals with the singer's father's reaction to his struggles with mental illness. I can believe that, because a lot of the sentiments (the "I think you could learn something from rats" and the repitition of "oh my god i am sorry") is a lot like my thoughts for my own parents when I was deeply depressed. Amazing, amazing song. |

I love the combination of emotions, both this intense desire not to hurt her and the frustration that she's keeping him from other things. It's what makes the song so powerful. |

Sarah McLachlan – Full Of Grace Lyrics

I've always thought this song was beautiful, but I'm in a place right now where all of it just speaks to me...the pain, the depression, but overall the feeling that it's keeping me from something, from being the person someone needs me to be, and as heartbreaking as it is I always feel a bit better after I hear this. |

Oh man this is just amazing. The word surrender has such negative connotations but here it almost seems positive, finally giving up and letting love in. |

This song hits me so hard every time because I relate so much to the "trying to be assertive" part. It's like...you can say over and over that you'll change and you'll start living your life in a better way but then it never seems to happen. |

This song is so much fun to play really loud :)
I believe this is about Jason's frustration with the way the record company tried to tell him how to make his music, especially on "Remedy" |

Danika- In the live version, he is saying (probably to Toca) "Did I ever tell you you remind me of Grimace from McDonaldland? Especially when you wear your purple shorts. I'm like...'whoa dude, I'm trippin'. I gotta get out of here." |

Let me crawl into your lap and just lay here for awhile
Satisfied by your seduction like a handshake would do the job
Never know how long I have waited, anticipated your smile to be pressed against mine
I love love love that part :) |

I love this song so very much. It seems to me like it's about someone who's had so many problems trying to find that one person right for them, and once they find them, none of the hurt before matters anymore. |

This song is so fun live...and the "why don't you tell me about the sunsets in Sweden and the laws of Eden and how you were the rock of Gibralter and how they called you foxy" part rocks. |

Bright Eyes – When the Curious Girl Realizes She Is Under Glass Lyrics

The reference to his brother here reminds me of the one in "No Lies, Just Love"....like in here he's saying that no matter how much he wants to leave (commit suicide/whatever you want to interpret this as), he won't abandon him. I liked that a lot, even if the connection was only in my head :) |

Barenaked Ladies – Falling For The First Time Lyrics

I think it's about a perfectionist who, by failing, realizes that they don't have to be who everyone thinks they are. I was a straight-A student in high school, and realizing that I could be something other than just a grade once I got to college was a very liberating thing. |

I heard this as a Jason Mraz cover (only the cover is called "Love Is Real") and while to be honest I like Jason's voice better, I have to say that the lyrics to this song are absolutely beautiful. I almost started crying the first time I heard it, it touched me that much. |

Linkin Park – In The End Lyrics

I almost started crying the first time I heard this song because it was so much like what I had been going though at the time. I think the song is about trying for something, not necessarily a relationship, but just ANYTHING that you really want, and losing, and feeling like all your work was for nothing. |

Deep Blue Something – Halo Lyrics

I heard this song once on VH1 and it got stuck in my head for close to five years until I finally got an mp3 of it. I think it's about something (drugs? sex?) that the singer and the person he's singing to got into, thinking they could easily get out of, but they ended up addicted. I think I remember one of the band members saying that this was the first song that he ever wrote directly about someone. |

Jason Mraz – You and I Both Lyrics
|
"Was it you who spoke the words that things would happen but not to me"
This song had me hooked from the very first line. Anyways, I think this is a song about two people who love each other very much but understand that their love might not last forever ("if nothing else I'll think the bells inside/have finally found you someone else") but if that happens, they'll still have positive memories about the relationship ("I'll remember everything you sang").
But, I could be totally wrong :) |
