Mad Caddies – Mary Melody Lyrics 10 years ago
I think the song is about a man attempting to encourage his (best/girl) friend (and co-ed roommate) from college into doing something with their life.

At first he was like her (too scared/unmotivated to start up his life) so he only gave the bare minimum amount of effort in everything while indulging in his vices together with her.

Despite having the freedom to do whatever they want (they're in college along with being full-fledged adults now) they refuse to do anything drastic and stagnate within their own laziness truly believing they can't change who they are.

At some point though, the time spent together made the singer start changing more noticeably, realizing life is short and making him want to become something more than a slacker. He decides to put forth a little more effort, hoping the person he was with this entire time would do the same.

Obviously she didn't though, so the singer is trying to persuade her out of love and concern. It's left off with her response being ambiguous and dismissive, which probably means she still isn't interested in doing anything still.

Probably a superficial interpretation but still. It's a nice song regardless.

Streetlight Manifesto – Your Day Will Come Lyrics 10 years ago
This is my interpretation after listening to it only a few times (love the song so I'll be doing it a lot more after this.)

But from my perspective, the song is singing about the insignificance of our choices and the misfortune that befalls us all.

The first scenario provided is about a young woman who left home for selfish reasons causing her mother to become depressed and easily taken advantage of by those around her. She inevitably dies, and at her funeral, the people who came only remember when she became depressed and the chances they all had to help her out but decided not to. The daughter understands how they're feeling and says it's alright, because she finally understands how life works.

The second scenario is about a young soldier who goes to fight for a worthless cause and becomes disfigured. Rewarded with useless trinkets and sent home, eventually dying. Because of his ties with the army, he'll be blamed for the slaughter of many regardless of the outcome of the war. Whether the cause was good or not, he'll always be one of the many who were blamed for the bloodshed.

These two scenarios are comparisons. The daughter left to be happy, causing her Mother to become depressed, inevitably dying an unhappy and lonely woman. The young man went to war, leaving everything behind. Soon after, he becomes disfigured due to the enemy's weapons and is sent back home with trinkets symbolizing his usefulness. He inevitably dies, blamed for the deaths of many.

They both speak about the deaths caused by another; one by the young woman, and many by the young man. Both are regarded the same way to the public as well.

"'Cause in the end it's all the same"

This part speaks about the misfortune of the young woman who lost her mother as well as the young man who became disfigured. These tragedies are as awful as the ones they caused.

"If I only had a dollar
For every horror that befalls my fellow man
I'd never work another hour
But I'd grow sour from the guilt and bitterness "

It's pretty straightforward here: Again, from my perspective, they're saying that misfortunes happen everywhere to everyone constantly. If you dwell on them all, you'll become disconsolate towards humanity as a whole and resentful towards everybody around you.

Instead, it speaks about how things are out of our control in life and to cope with them any way you know how, then begs the question on how you'd react when you're facing such tragic events.

"Your day will come"

Indeed it will.

---

Again, this is only my superficial interpretation of this amazing song. It's probably way off-base, but either way, the song itself is awesome and easily one of the best Streetlight Manifesto songs to date.

As always, fuck Victory Records.

Of Monsters And Men – Dirty Paws Lyrics 11 years ago
This song is pretty literal in what it's saying

When Spring starts, paper wasps create nests that grows while housing several generations of workers. At the end of Summer, the Queen produces eggs which will develop into insects that will leave the nest to mate and start the process over again next year.
Once this generation leaves, those nest's life is basically over. This means anything left behind is ripe for picking, and crows seem to have the uncanny ability to know just when this time occurs to gobble up the larvae and bugs lying around.
Of course, paper wasps also create nests in the ground as well. Just as the crows and jays do, coyotes, skunks, and foxes will dig up these nests to eat those protein-rich larvae as well. Coincidentally, coyotes, skunks, and foxes are known to eat grass as well.
Once more: Dragonflies are carnivorous bugs that prey on other insects and have been known to eat bees and wasps.

This song is about a young (I'll say Fox) growing up and having their own pup. Growing up a bit, the pup now hunts small bugs and berries but usually sticks to grass as it's the most abundant source for him around the area. While out searching for food, this pup spots a dragonfly and chases it around semi-playfully leading the fox to a nearby forest.
As I've said before, Foxes will dig up nests and eat the larvae and whatever else after the next generation ups and flies away. Well, the pup loses interest in the Dragonfly and runs off to search for these nests. He wasn't alone, though. Birds and other animals alike were eating what was left of both the nests and bugs.
They didn't get all the nests, though. Those left behind in the nests that were still intact didn't dare leave them (either due to self-preservation or just instinct since their duty was finished). Outside what few nests remained was a feeding frenzy of birds and animals; the most notorious one being the Pup that followed the Dragonfly. After most wasps (including the Queen) eaten or somehow killed, this story ends with that Dragonfly flying back to where the Pup first saw it.

tl;dr It's a song about the feeding frenzy that occurs in forests over 'left-over' nests.

Of Monsters And Men – Your Bones Lyrics 11 years ago
This song is about Nomadic Indians during the beginning of Spring. Once Spring rolls around, they create new hunting tools (bows and arrows) and burn down the rest.
In Spring, snow rains down heavily in some areas. Living in one of those areas, these Nomadic Indians hunt for their food and equipment while traveling on foot for a new area to settle down in for a bit.
However, one (or a couple of) tribesmen ended up succumbing to the snow or other hardships. Before moving on any further, the others do a ritual where they cremate the dead which lasts through the night until the last man or woman falls asleep.
Waking up to the sound of an Owl, they all start waking up and getting ready to move again, paying their final respects to those who passed just as they've done to the animals they've hunted and continue on.
