the way i see this song is that life is our own , we are the only one who make our own choices , and live with the effects of the choices we make and truely only can fight our problems ourselves , " my gift of self is raped" to me means that people keep trying to change eachother and we lose ourselves along the way , this song also as a lot of you mentioned also has to do with fame , " my privacy is raked" and his also trying to say he would rather not live if he loses all that is true to him as a person , just the whole vibe of this song has a deeper feeling to it , alice in chains arn't ever going to be the same without layne,, |

to me its about the belief of that life isjust the first phase of everything , but also mentions there are some things which can help you pass the time , but certain things make you want to give up on waiting , and a way to cope in this phase patients is key to getting by without completely losing yourself along the way. im atheist as well as maynard i think , but in my opinion this song is talking about a creation or something that created us , as in a god , with the lines "So good to see you. I've missed you so much. So glad it's over. I've missed you so much Came out to watch you play. Why are you running?" in my opinion is that the "god" in a way fucks around with us and in the part of the song its showing in a way , that people who believe are fearful of god and all that shit , and in the salvia version of the song , each time they do that part it gets more potent in a way , and if there is a god it abandonded us along time ago , as in forsakin , and its evil in genral , as well as the whole song being called third eye , in a sence to succed to open your third eye its to connect with the more spirtual part of yourself , and to get to that state it takes alot of patients and practice , but what you succed in it , life does really just feel like a long dream to you and this song is quite close to describing alot of the details about it , i was really stoned when i thought of this but just remembered it quite well :) |

my interpretation of this is that death amuses us all , and we enjoy seen others in pain aslong as we arnt effected by it , and watching it over the news on t.v is a safe haven where we wont been judged by others because we are ashamed of the joy we get out of watching others in pain , tools lyrics are beautiful and deep , one of my best bands |
