I think this song is about a man who is thinking about his dead wife/girlfriend. He is looking at an old picture of her, and he is haunted by it. That could be literal- as in he feels her ghost is watching him looking at it. But I think it means he is haunted by the memory of her; he just can't forget her. It takes him back in time by bringing up old memories of them together. And they are so real to him, that her picture might as well be the real girl and he wouldn't even know the difference. But it was so long ago that he was with her that he eventually has to come back to the present and face reality. He wishes he could tell her how much he loves her, which maybe she didn't know because she's dead and he never said it enough when she was alive. He dreams about the day she died and wishes he could be with her, but he can't escape the fact that she is gone forever. When he 'sees it all the time,' he means that he sees her everywhere, in every picture. or It could be about a man seeing a picture of a woman with another man. And she reminds him of an old lover who left him. He wishes he could tell that woman how he felt about her, but it's too late, and he dreams about the day she left. The picture haunts him because for all he knows that could be the woman he used to love, now with someone else. But they were together so long ago, he believes he probably wouldn't even recognize her anymore. When he sees the picture, he knows she must have found someone else by now. There are many things this song could mean, and those are just two of my interpretations. But the song is so beautiful, and it can mean whatever you want it to mean anyway. By the way, I also heard it on Kyle XY (love that show!) and that is one of the reasons why I like this song so much... |
