This song is about (or at least the sound clip) Edward Howard Maps. He was on the FBI's most wanted list for a while in the 60's. Here's his page: http://pennsylvaniamissing.com/mapsedwardhoward.html Very interesting. Sounded like an alright guy who was (probably) ruined by PTSD and probably didn't burn down his house. Who knows? I'd like to contact the books and ask them if the song itself is all about him. It's a motherfucker getting information on this guy, so I'd be surprised if this song is actually specifically about him and his life. |

Not only do I agree with the post about the Twelve Stages, but if you look into the context of the lyrics, it also seems to be talking about the human brain. 1-4: the brain unfolds, growing in a place to call its own (the cranium of a foetus) 5-6: the brain drapes 6 senses over what will become the incredibly fragile psyche, the human condition, by connecting fully to the spinal cord, allowing full feeling. 8: our unending quest for discovery and companionship, the love of people that are like us, but not us. 9: Reference to the fact that the brain technically named itself "the brain" upon its discovery as the control system for the body 10: In the end, the brain cures itself of its suffering by dying. | Nah man, theres no "without" in the beginning. The only two clearly discernible words are "inside me". Before that is a one syllable word. Sounds like "looked inside me" to me. The sentence it came from could have possibly said "you looked inside me" or "he looked inside me" or possibly just "look inside me". | |
