Simon and Garfunkel – Bridge Over Troubled Water Lyrics 12 years ago
HAs anybody heard ROBERTA FLACKs version of this song ? It will electrify you it is a staggering vocal performance that transforms a great song into an immortal one. Slow and gospelly start with just her and piano. Then when she gets to the "Silver girl" section she enters a heavanly dimension the intensity is overwhelming especially the way she draws out "see how they shine, if you need a friend im sailing right behind" thats the core lyric as well. If you ever love someboday uncoditionally give them this version of this song but you have to mean it, especially "when times get rough". Interesting that that last phrase is borrowed by Peter Gabriel in "Dont Gove Up" a cousin song to this if ever there was one.

Peter Gabriel – Don't Give Up Lyrics 12 years ago
I was unemployed in the 80s and yes of course this song can cover that. But its far more general, universal than that and can apply to any situation of potential despair. I swapped songs with a friend earlier this year and when I recived this it actually helped to give me the strength to walk away from a terrible situation that had been weakening me for years.(my marriage )
I will always be grateful for my friend letting me hear this song and being able to gather my resources to fight on.

Joni Mitchell – Refuge Of The Roads Lyrics 12 years ago
Jacos bass, almost steals the song, but its a Fort Knox of a song, impregnable, nobody can steal this its so profound lyrically and so perfectly captures resigned melancholy and the acquisition of true wisdom through experience. Its a song that will guide you throughout your whole life, as is the rest of the hejira album, which IMHO has never been surpassed as a document about enlightenment.

Joni Mitchell – Song For Sharon Lyrics 12 years ago
just to be nerdy Jaco does not play on this track, he is on Coyote, Hejira, Black Crow and Refuge of the Roads. When I heard this song in 1977 I thought it was great but hadnt lived enough to truly feel it. This year I met a woman who is 29, just like Joni was ("29 skaters on Wollmann rink") who was/is going through an identity struggle. I suggested this song to her and I think it enlightened her. Its one of the ultimate reflections of Jonis amazing talent for marying highly personal idiosyncratic lyrics with beautiful and unorthodox music.
