you're exactly correct. i think ppl like "teachers and preachers" (but especially preachers) have good intentions when they try to help ppl but just don't always understand. |

i think you're right about this.
i always looked at it as the river is religion/faith/god and he's resisting it "I want to dance in the summer"
but the first person is trying to convert him "you want to swim in the river" or is possibly considering conversion and wants the singer to join him. "The water's rushing so fast/i think it will take us under" could be a reflection of his fear of committing completely to the religion/faith/god. |
