He left (purposefully or the winds of change just pulled him) & thought he'd be okay; like he didn't think he was emotionally attached to them. After going out and experiencing life without her, he realized what he had with her was totally awesome & rare. Now he wants a second chance & hoping he gets it. |

I'm sorry Miss Amber, but last I checked this website was for people posting what THEY thought the song meant. John -and most musicians- do not write a song with one set meaning. Their music is supposed to be open to interpretations. She was sharing her thoughts of it, and you were sharing yours; however, you could have done it without calling her "stupid". & btw I think it's about being in the highest-highs of your relationships on the holidays because that was when it was most convienient, but when the holidays were over, their relationship simmered and cooled. |

I read somewhere that this song is a perfect response to Taylor's "Mine" Love isn't something you own, and love isn't a thing. Never say "Mine" in love. These are all many misconceptions of love. But we're all different- love can mean different things for different people. Love ain't a thing; you can't hold it in possession. It's a verb, so show it. He maybe just wants someone (like specificly) to show him love. He doesn't want her words because sometimes those don't mean shit. Actions speak louder and are most times more sincere. Can't believe nobody commented yet. Anyway, I hope this song is on his new album because I really like it and would enjoy hearing a studio version. |

I really like this song because to me, John talks about his minor insecurity about maturing and growing up. "it's slightly harder than last year" This is like, no matter when, yeah last year WAS easier. "and all at once it gets hard to take it gets hard to fake what I wont be" He talks about, one day, being Born and Raised. This may be like one day you're going to wake up and realized that you've GROWN up. Personally I am afraid of growing up, and that's why I love his music, because I mold it to mean the same thing for him, too. I guess it helps me deal :) Either way, I love John and am VERY excited for his new album, when ever he's ready of course! |

In the chorus he says, "Can we be loved? Can we be three? Can we be all these things you said to me?" It sounds like he's trying to work out a relationship so he can have a family, and he's eeping the peace so that the family can properly function. The song seems, to me, to be a story about a kid who went through some confusing things in his life (mom marrying best friend's dad). He went through a lot, and felt a lot more emotions than his own friends did making him over-analyze things, thus making him a Sensitive Kid. Maybe in the midst of all this, the kid never really got to live his childhood and had to "start acting like a grown up". |
