Dead Kennedys – A Growing Boy Needs His Lunch Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Jello's diverse lyrical styles are extending in this album and so is the band's willingness to experiment beyond the realm of punk. Yet the hardcore sound -- which in my opinion, really showcases how good of a drummer Peligro is (see Bedtime for Democracy and In God We Trust Inc.) -- has not yet come into the picture. Further, the production seems sub-par on this album. I always turn the treble and mids way up on the EQ when listening. I have to say I never totally fell in love with Frankenchrist (like the first commenter) but the album does have its own unique feel. Taken with the other albums, it shows the band's chemistry and ability to evolve together. Alternatively, just enjoy it and forget my goofy analysis. It's well worth the listen. |
Dead Kennedys – Do The Slag Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Good stuff. I take to Jello's sarcasm on songs like this, along with his general ability to illustrate conflicts between the human psyche and society at large that are pretty much universal. But when he gets preachy, it can get a little awkward. For example, I think these lyrics are a much more inspiring assault on petty elitism than the lyrics to the other "anti-elitist" song on Bedtime for Democracy. |
Dead Kennedys – Rambozo The Clown Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Am I missing something about "bullshitter in an Indochina shop?" I guess all I take away from it is the idea of an American solider fighting in the Vietnam war (for the purported purpose of improving the social and political climate) without any true understanding of what's really going on in that culture. But is there more to it than that? If not, well, I guess it is still a pretty good line. |
