David Nail – The Sound of a Million Dreams Lyrics 8 years ago
This song was co-wrote by Phil Vassar (yes, that piano playing Phil Vassar)

He says that it was about all of the music that inspired him to become who he is. You'll notice many different songs referenced in the song, and the chorus line that he hopes he can make you feel the same way that those songs have made him feel.

Bob Segar - Mainstreet
Elton John - Lady Samantha
Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run
Rolling Stones - Prodigal Son
Merle Haggard - Mama tried

Post other ideas for the songs embedded in here. Love this song

David Nail – Let It Rain Lyrics 8 years ago
@[solongastoria01:5869] Letting it rain could be anything. Rain could be actual water droplets, or it could be used as a verb to be a number of things. It could be her anger, it could be his shame, it could be all of them.

The Script – If You Ever Come Back Lyrics 10 years ago
Haven't seen the interview or the music video, but this does fit the lyrics.

The beauty of a great song is when 10 different people can listen to the same song and each of them see it differently and relate it to their own lives. And this song can definitely do that. Just because this was the original intent doesn't mean that the other 9 people are wrong.

The Script – If You Ever Come Back Lyrics 10 years ago
And I wish you could give me the cold shoulder
And I wish you can still give me a hard time
And I wish I could still wish it was over
But even if wishing is a waste of time
Even if I never cross your mind

These lyrics just strike me as ironic. You would rather go back to the way it was when you were unhappy than to live currently with what you did in attempt to be happy, especially the line "I wish I could still wish it was over"

The Script – Six Degrees of Separation Lyrics 11 years ago
The radio version has the last line of the chorus as "And the sixth, is when you admit that you may have messed up a little" which I had always heard as "when you admit that you miss them just a little"

Either way, the 6 degrees of separation are similar to the 5 stages of grief and overcoming pain. In order to reach that last stage you need to accept that you had a part to play.

It takes two to fight. Now you might not have been the instigator (or the one who cheated), but that doesn't mean that you didn't help fuel the fire. If you look deep enough, you can find your flaws which contributed to the demise, which is important so that you don't go down that road again.

Matchbox Twenty – Parade Lyrics 11 years ago
Not sure if I would say this is the best song off their new album, but it was definitely the best one I hadn't heard before. A very pleasant track to be leading off their album.

Reminds me of the days of being a kid. The times were so good that we should have known they wouldn't last. All too soon the end came without warning and you have to just go home.

Second verse is more of a highschool/college memory. At a party one night and leaving before the real fun begins. Which was usually me, I'd have to get home at a decent hour for something early the next morning and knowing that if I didn't leave right then, then I probably wouldn't be making it home at all that night. Sort of a sheltered life.

If you don't stick it out, then you never know what could be.

The Goo Goo Dolls – Name Lyrics 11 years ago
Maybe too personal for this forum, but why aren't you with her? Have you told her how much she means to you?

I have an ex with a similar relationship. It has only lasted a few years, and there haven't been any marriages or children for each of us. But she means a ton to me, a true friend. Unfortunately, my current girlfriend (of the past year) won't have anything to do with her. I can't even mention a past event from my life without upsetting her. Just not sure how I can ever maintain this friendship but still move on romantically with somebody else.

While I think several people have the right idea (and I think there are several) this one hits home with me right now. Looking at myself and where I'm at now.... is nothing like what I expected. Does that mean that I failed myself? Does it mean that I was just a stupid kid and didn't know better? Probably a bit of both

Dan Fogelberg – Same Old Lang Syne Lyrics 11 years ago
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same_Old_Lang_Syne

"After Fogelberg's death from prostate cancer in 2007, the woman about whom he wrote the song came forward with her story. Her name is Jill Greulich, and she and Fogelberg dated in high school when she was Jill Anderson. As she explained to the Peoria Journal Star in a December 22, 2007 article,[6] they were part of the Woodruff High School class of 1969, but went to different colleges. After college, Jill got married and moved to Chicago, and Dan went to Colorado to pursue music. On December 24, 1976, they were each back in Peoria with their families for Christmas when Jill went out for eggnog and Dan was dispatched to find whipping cream for Irish coffee. The only place open was a convenience store at the top of Abington Hill where they had their encounter, located at 1302 East Frye Avenue. Today, the store is still in business and is now called Short Stop Food Mart. They bought a six pack of beer and drank it in her car for two hours while they talked."

Howie Day – No Longer What You Require Lyrics 11 years ago
and yes the lyrics above are wrong.

I also suggest the following lyric modification. Instead of "You better just forget it wont you close the door on me" I sing it "You better just forget her wont you close your eyes" Only reason being that eyes rhymes with try. Part of this is because of the live version that I first heard (and only heard until recently) doesn't have "on me" he just says door and drops off.

Howie Day – No Longer What You Require Lyrics 11 years ago
You're right. We have all been there, and despite how different situations can be, the feeling is always the same and I can easily see relating it to whichever circumstance you happen to be in.

For me, its drifting apart. I was with a girl and we drifted apart to the point that she cheated. I could have easily told her that I loved her and stayed to rekindle our fire, but I didn't. I let it go (as did she)

"Back then the days were so much faster,
we were young stubborn and in love with disaster."

I just love this line. Young and stubborn, that described us perfectly. The disaster part makes me wonder if perhaps the people in the song just weren't right for each other. The days always seem so much faster when you're living them. For me, months of our relationship problems seemed to just go by. And after its over (hind sight is 20-20) you wonder how you missed all the signals and didn't react to the circumstance. It is all too easy for a bad day to turn into a bad week and then a bad month and then a bad year.

The greatest and yet possibly worst thing about this song is the obscurity of it. I stumbled upon it by chance on youtube because I'm a Howie Day fan. But 99.9% of the world don't know what beauty they are missing. But at the same time, I would hate to see pop culture ruin this song like what happened to "somebody that you used to know".

And by the way, while the album version of this song is good, my favorite is still the live version from Mix 106.5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xT2NgTWAYIk Perhaps because that is how I first heard the song, but I like it better because it has so much more emotion than the recorded version. The album version has some nice effects too, but the emotion really does it for me. A good song is a good song anyway you look at it.

Andy Grammer – Miss Me Lyrics 11 years ago
If you haven't seen his music video, it is a must watch. Love the glow stick concept, you can't truly shine until you're broken.

That tagline alone is how you can describe the song. Pretty must everyone has suffered heartbreak at some point and should be able to relate their own experience to the lyrics.

Beck – Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime Lyrics 12 years ago
I think you missed the whole point of the movie. While it might seem like erasing a single memory, or every memory that a person touched might seem like a good idea at the time, it is those memories that shaped you into who you are today. Without them, you are destined to make the same mistakes again.

Moral of the story: Buck up and deal with it. Jim Carrey's character was in a depressed state and didn't think he would be able to deal with it so he agreed to the procedure. In the process, he realized how much he was going to be losing and changed his mine.

How many of us have done the same thing? I have gotten back with a girl shortly after a breakup because while I was inilially happy with my decision I found myself feeling lost days later. Start having selective memory and beleiving that a mistake was made. Get back together only to realize that nothing has changed and it is still a bad relationship to be in.

Once you have met the addiction (devil) there is no way it is going to let you be.

"There's things that I can't leave alone
Cause they won't leave me alone
What I want ain't what I need"
Classic sign of an addiction.
