I think this song is about two people, probably in either an open relationship or just friends with benefits. And the narrator wants more than that, while the girl has a fear of commitment ("I rock too fast for love; How she hates to be alone; etc). And obviously this girl is a major source of depression (aka "carving question marks" and "we fail at everything we ever even try to attempt may be talking bout suicide attempts.") But through it all, the narrator recognizes that he would rather be with her hating life than live without her.
Plus a lot of allusions and imagery that is amazing and completely contrasts the upbeat tempo. Justin Pierre is a perfect person. |

I feel like this song is about a couple that is falling apart. She keeps picking fights with him, maybe out of jealousy because he stays out late and she thinks he's cheating. He's not, and she knows he isn't in her heart, but she's jealous to the point of being irrational about it. He's tired of these games and instead of fighting he chooses to say sorry and tune her out to save the relationship, but it's becoming unbearable. |
