Modest Mouse – Teeth Like God's Shoeshine Lyrics 13 years ago
just watch the movie "Rampage" or think of columbine. there is definately enough resentment in this song to warant the need to go on a rampage and shoot up a whole mall-full of idiot consumers. the parts in the beginning of the song almost seem to be describing two men going on this spree together, one of them for ideology and the other just to score some quick bucks and get high using all of that money to fuel his addictive behavior (he is one sick fuck and is the one who should be ashamed). the character who is in it for nothing is more like isaac's personality, and has almost a grandiose opinion of his mission, much like a messiah and the type of churches isaac spent some time at as a kid. but isaac himself understands the rediculous nature of these religious freaks, he knows if he believed in a god, his God would have no concern with the day to day lives' of man; nope, isaac's God had given up an humankind long ago.

Broken Bells – The High Road Lyrics 13 years ago
surprised it took so long for someone to mention this... the whole song is a struggle with whether to commit suicide. testomonials of the army of people who are in tough situations (a broken home, drugs, prostitution). confusing times in the "soldiers" life leaving him/her running ammuck. not a very hopeful song. mentions of it being too late as if they are firm believers in fate. once your mind is made up and you consider the glass half empty you will only think about your losses and its as good as over.

Modest Mouse – Styrofoam Boots/It's All Nice on Ice, Alright Lyrics 13 years ago
st. peter was crucified head down, he did not consider himself worthy to die in the same way as his savior. Also, he was the apostle that denied knowledge of Jesus(three times, as prescribed by jesus), much as brock does. does this mean isaac will repent? we hope not. also, according to matthew when jesus walked on water, peter walked on water for a moment until his faith began to waiver. isaac brock obviously would have had a far deeper understanding of scriptures when he wrote this than any of us should ever be forced to have, but i'm with him when he says that he is basically an atheist who just finds that type of shit interesting. so i think isaac is drowning upside down in this song due to his wavering faith. envision a crucifixion gone wrong so they dump him in the river. the top heavy cross would sink to the bottom leaving the feet aflaot like christ's.
